I've currently got a home cinema setup that I'm quite happy with, but would still like some more oomph from my FL and FR speakers.

Current setup is:

Yamaha RX-V667 A/V Amp

5x B&W MT-30 + B&W sub for C, SR, SBR, SBL, SL

2x Gale Bookshelf speakers for FL and FR

Somehow, it all works quite nicely together.

I'm looking at upgrading my Gales to floorstanders and have been considering the options. Richer Sounds have a couple of Q Acoustics 1030i floorstanders, which seem like the best option (though I may need to upgrade my centre to achieve a balance). However, it looks like they'll be running out soon so I'm looking for other options (Wharfedale CR30.4, Tannoy F3 Custom or Cambridge Audio S70 seem like reasonable alternatives). So I'd like to tap the forum's mind on a couple of things:

1) Does anyone have any advice on which of the alternatives might be a good tonal match?

2) All my speakers are currently 8ohms and this is the default setting on my Amp. Floorstanders seem to be primarily 6ohms. I can change my Amp to work with 6ohms, but this is a blanket setting across the amp (i.e. across all speakers). Will this cause any problems?

Thanks in advance.

Don't know if you budget allows but the obvious answer would be to buy the b&w 684, they will match your tweeters on the M1s and they are 8ohms.

You could then upgrade the centre to match later on to ensure the correct balance up front.

In the end I went for stand-mounted Monitor Audio BX2s. I later replaced the centre with a BX Centre and later the rears with BXFXs. I'm very pleased with the setup and it's been a smooth upgrade, sounding good at each stage and better after each improvement.
