Well I have finally taken the plunge and rather than waiting for the next mag of What HiFi
emotion-10.gif
have plumped for the PS3 as my BluRay player as opposed to the newer panasonic's and sony's. I have a Sony AMP STR-DA5000ES, so it is not HD compatible
emotion-6.gif
so I am currently outputting by Digital optical for my normal DVD's to my KEF KHT2005.2 speakers (Have these set-up for 7.1 surround sound)

My question is: Can anyone recommend any good quality BluRay films to now try out my new player

I have plenty of normal DVD's which I am upscaling to 720p (according to my local expert shop this is the best setting for the 43" plasma I have Pioneer 436XDE).

Thx

Kev

ps. Would getting something like the Onkyo SR606 really improve this sytem? If so, need to work on the wife for xmas

Bluray or not the opening sequence of Blade Runner is my favourite surround moment, mind blowing. Can't wait to see it on Bluray now!

No Country For Old Men. One of the best films of the noughties and apparently superb on BD.

We've been using Transformers during some of our testing - robots and Megan Fox in high-def. What more could you want? All jokes aside it has a cracking transfer and soundtrack.

Pants film though. No matter how good the transfer or soundtrack the film is the thing. Just get your favourite films as a treat and enjoy them as never before.

My favourites so far just for the extra special picture / sound (alphabetical rather than preferred order):
3:10 to Yuma
300
Batman Begins
Blade Runner (recommend getting the US version from somewhere like MovieTyme)
Blood Diamond
Casino Royale
Into the Blue (Jessica Alba in HD...)
Pirates of the Caribbean
Spiderman Trilogy
There Will Be Blood
I can recommend getting a Lovefilm subscription to test out Blu-Rays before you buy. Some (like Gangs of New York) aren't that much of an improvement over the DVD so it's worth testing first before spending the extra money for the Blu-Ray. Also, I'd check out High Def Digest which gives a good overview of the picture and sound quality transfer on the disc - I don't pay much attention to their reviews of the actual film though!

I'm afraid that i've got to disagree. Being a massive fan of Transformers throughout my childhood i couldn't wait to see this film and i wasn't disappointed. The CGI is absolutely amazing and while the script isn't too hot i'm still going to buy a copy!!ÿ

I really enjoyed Transformers too
Ok it's a take-your-brain-out and watch it...but there are a lot of films you need to do this with
An enjoyable romp and the CGI was superb

Thanks for all the replies and I loved Transformers at the cinema and have it on normal DVD so may take a look at it on BluRay. Some good suggestions for BluRay films, have to balance that aginst what i already have on normal to compare, i.e. already have all 3 Pirates films and Spiderman films plus 300, Batman Begins and Casino Royale

But what do you guys think about the Onkyo SR606, ould this really improve my system?

For reference quality Casino Royal, IRobot, Ratatouille, Blade Runner, Kill Bill 1 & 2.
