don't sell yourself short, Clare.

I have nowt against women - you'll note I slated 3 men (including Mr Norton, just so you don't think I have something against straight people) on my list too.

Women in business are every bit as good as men*.

*this does not apply to the cat-herding I witnessed on last night's apprentice.

the_lhc:Clare Newsome:He's a decent singer, too (as anyone who's heard him on 'I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue' can attest to).
Good point, he's had a number one as well. Record I mean, with Tom Jones. Does an impression of him too, although it mainly consists of him going "Huh!". A lot. Justin Lee Collins on the other hand does a very passable singing impression of Tom.

He may be able to hold a note - that doesn't make him the next Parky (and I think Parky himself has a bit of a rant on this recently).

And on the subject of his singing ability - I really would prefer if he didn't attempt the cringe-worthy duet with each guest. I hope Seasick Steve is ashamed of himself for allowing it to happen.

He (with Edith) did have Spitting Games by Snow Patrol as a record of the week first time around before Run was a single. His 10 o'clock show on radio one wasn't that bad.

i suppose he must have done something right to get to where he is, but i dont think he'll stay there too long, he's probably a nice chap and all, and good luck to him etc. but i just dont dont rate him as a live presenter, on match of the day two the other week he seemed to make the guests uneasy, and cracked some poor jokes, it made for uncomfortable viewing imo, adrian chiles is in another league..

DavieCee:

I don't know if it would work on TV but if I was in charge of the BBC I would be tempted to try pulling Mark & Simon off 5 Live for a trial period. Their "wittertainment" works a treat on Friday afternoons.

dont no if you could have them big flappy hands on tv

anyway i wouldnt pull them of the radio im sure you could get them to do the two show for less than it cost jr to do one.

unfortunately there is no way Mark Kermode would be given that show, he has opinions! quite why that is an issue on what is now a late night show is a mystery!

Surely people would rather have someone with an opinion, rather some insipid 'TV celeb' though.

At least Barry Norman in his time expressed some views!

I'll stick to the podcast of messrs Kermode and Mayo for now..

PS. I didn't mention Apple..not even once!

Caught it on Replay the other day. The first and last time I'll be watching it. It's going the way of other specialist shows in trying to become more of an entertainment show in itself. Don't like it.

Have to agree BigChris, (like most of the rest of the posts here) it does seem that another show is being dumbed-down and turned into an entertainment show in it's own right rather than doing what it says on the tin !! (that's quite enough cliches for one sentence !)

The other point I want to make is why does a film review show seem to want to turn us all into geeks, or make us think that we are? I enjoy films alot and want to know more about what's on, who made it, who's in it and if and why it's any good, but I don't want to be made to feel like a bit of a weirdo for having such an interest...Is it just me or does anyone else get that too ?
