The White Album - The Beatles

Physical Graffiti - Led Zepellin

anyone know any more?

Pre CD, albums (LP's) were about 36-40 mins long - Rainbow on Stage was a double live album that was one hour long - maybe less ! As such with the advent of CD at lot of 'albums' these days should, at over an hour long probably be classed as double, however...I assume we're talking about classics

There are probably a few to be fair but I can' think of too many 'studio albums' at this moment but excluding live albums, collections + remastered packages..................

I agree, Physical Graffiti is one of (if not) the greatest double albums ever, however it wasn't all new material being as it was a collection of new songs and outtakes from previous albums eg Houses of the Holy from (d'oh) Houses of the Holy

Others that spring to mind are..

Layla - Derek & the Dominoes - Like Monopoly & Cluedo every house such own a copy

Blonde on Blonde - Bob Dylan

Eat a Peach - Allman Bros - although again not all new material

Technically GNR's Use Your Illusion's 1 & 2 were originally material for one album - although (in my humble opinion) much of what ended up on part 1 was filler!!

Beatles - White Album / John Lennon - Working Class Hero / George Harrison - All Things Must Pass / Cliff Richard - 40 Golden Greats
/ Lonnie Donegan - Hit Singles Collection / Electric Light Orchestra - Out The Blue / Moody Blues - Caught Live + Five....mmm better stop now, and play some 🙂

Come on Andrew, get in with the scene...War of the Worlds is quality! And Cyrus use it for their demos...

Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence. - Dream Theater.

Amazing album, both discs own. Also contains my favouritist song ever, 'Disappear'.

An exception to the rule. A triple album that's rubbish.

Mr. E listen to progressive stuff! Whatever next....motorhead concert in July, may be?

[/quote] That's obviously a subjective view!!! It's not rubbish, it's technically brilliant - but of it's time! I would say that whilst I actually think it's a classic album I don't listen to it frequently, however you do have to listen, it certainly isn't background music. Also, (much like extended drum solos on live albums) it would have been so much better being there.

Oh yeah. And for the most part 'War of the Worlds' owns. 'Thunderchild' surely stands out as the best song.

Sinatra live at the Sands

Miles Davis - all of them (the doubles, that is)

Joni Mitchell - Don Juan's reckless daughter

Mahler's longer symphonies

Keith Jarrett - Expectations

Wynton Marsalis - In This House, On This Morning

Who came up with the rule anyway?
