I ordered a Sony KDL32W4000 from Electrosaver last monday. I checked today to see how my order was coming along when i was told that sony had discontinued it. i said why wasnt i notified of this and why was the money taken from my bank account then. Ive just cancelled the order and now have to wait 2-5 working days for them to refund my account. Wont be dealing with them again. They basically knew this for 1 week and i wasnt told not even a phone call.

They made a quick bit of interest while your money was in their account, seems to be a common practice with online electronics retailers.

Stick to shops or av/hifi retailers. Saying that, i've just bought my tv off Amazon, ha, i can't say much.

Your right there Clare i mean i always assumed that they only take the money from your account once the item is shipped. They couldnt even phone to say the item was not in stock so what would u like to do a complete joke. Amazon it is or Richer Sounds once i get my money back of them.

If you do get your refund, then your one of the lucky ones. They have a long list of unhappy customers, myself included. I wont go into detail here, but be careful. Not recommended.

I AGREE - I had ordered my TV from amazon on 28-12-08, and they debited the money on 16-01-09 (actual ship date) - I personall think that they are the MOST reliable online retailers in the country - with some great policies !

Clare Newsome:Yeah, but Amazon (and some other online retailers) don't debit your card until they ship the product....

This really is the way it should be if online transactions are to mirror those of a shop based sale. I would suggest extra caution for a site that was taking money upfront, not answering the phone or emails. If the pre-sale service is not to your liking it suggests to me that post sale service may suffer a bit as well.

May I ask how you know this company has "a long list of unhappy customers"?

If you pay by credit card, it is normally an infringement of the merchant service agreement (that the store has with the bank/credit card company who process the payment for them) to debit it before the goods are supplied (or dispatched, in this case).

Mind you, I have seen some online dealers say in their faqs that they debit your account as soon as the order is placed (even if they can't fulfill it right away) - 7dayshop (good for cheap batteries, printer cartridges etc) used to do this, not sure if they've stopped it now.

Not sure how this can be, as the concept of paying for goods that are to be delivered at some point in the (near) future, has been common practice for donkey's years, and applies to all payment methods.

By reading their comments in forums. After running into problems, I checked out others peoples experience with the retailer, here and on another av site.

Andrew Everard:So hearsay then...

Hearsay? With respect, I didn't claim to have the official word. I was just referring to what I've read, and my personal experience, which was negative.

I've not seen any mention of the set being discontinued lately. Hope you get it sorted dazb, should be no problem picking one up elsewhere.

suggested a level of knowledge beyond what you'd read on forums. Hence my caution about any potential legal repercussions from your claims.

But I think now readers know the source of the information on which you base your statements, they'll be able to make their own judgements about the situation.

Well i made contact with Electrosaver today and they will be redebiting mt account this friday as soon as i have the money i will go to richer sounds and purchase the Tv there if in stock.

Yes, the KDL32W4000 has been discontinued along with the KDL46W4500.

Good point! I think it means dealers debiting cards immediately for goods that are out of stock. And most reputable online stores only process your payment when they have the goods available (eg Amazon say "We will not debit money from your credit/debit card until just
before your item/items are dispatched.").
