The Sony str-da5400es has won an award for best av-amp for 2008-2009. How?

No one has seen or heard one and they can't be bought anywhere not even in N. America yet.

With the recent 2400 major hdmi over-ride bug, the problem may have existed on all their new av-amps delaying availability and yet Denon, Onkyo and Yamaha to name a few have all their amps out.

I think the UK hi-fi publication involved in EISA would consider itself to be rather more specialist than WHFSV.

Oh and BTW I am told that the circuitry in the 5400ES is completely different, and therefore that product is entirely unaffected by the HDMI/optical problem.

Yes as soon as I said it I thought I could have used a more Choice phrase. But the whole concept seems a bit flawed.

Andrew Everard:Or possibly the only point...

Now now, Andrew, live and let live. It was they who finally convinced me to buy my Cambridge. Something about Ferdinand Magellan. Or maybe I was overcome by the vellum......

Course, it was in the "hifi for plebs that we wouldn't give house room" section.

Oh I agree - a spot of Plush isn't to be sniffed at.

Are you sure it was Megallen on the vellum? Not the chalice from the palace? Or the vessel with the pestle?

Best to ignore these EISA awards then?

Not even a review either or a comparison with other brands !

It's even published on the Sony UK website along with 4 other awards for products plus the fact that the USA gets products months before we do.

No doubt it's a good amp "regardless of price" Quote Sony but I've seen it advertised in Germany for £1600+ and it doesn't even have any networking and probably only one year warranty compared to the USA 5 year warranty for ES receivers.
