dynaudio focus 110 vs DM 2/7

Focus 110's are a great speaker and in optimal position they sound great in my setup(Naim Nait 5i), but they need a bit of space around them. Alas in my setup at the moment, they are bunged and on a shelf, which is not ideal. Fine for lowish volumes it's fine and warms the sound a bit(think loudness button) but as soon as you turn it up the bass can be overwhelming. I think the room positioning is the key to your decision because there is no doubting the quality of the speaker in prime position.

blackfinder:
i read the sensitivity isn't pretty high, so both dynaudio's will need some bunch of watts to be well driven.

focus 110 also should have lower impedance... will my kandy K2 drive well these dyna models or it's not enough "rude" to make them sing ?

Blackfinder,

I recently got the chance to demo Dynaudio Focus 110 with Roksan Kandy amp it's an awesome combination, sound was very detailed with sweet treble and excellent soundstage, my budget was limited so couldn't buy

, I tried several speakers with Roksan Kandy, B&W, MAs Dali I found the Focus 110 to be the best overal.

hello NigelF, thanks a lot for your report !!

still looking to have a listen to the focus 110...meanwhile i going to demo at home a pair of latest Monitor Audio RX 6-8.

into the shop, connected to my kandy K2, they sounded very lively and detailed, more than the older RS series.

a fast and tight bass with open dynamic trebles, the feelings are very good, they seemed a great entertainment speakers package.

i will you update about them in a few days !!

FrankHarveyHiFi:

This issue will be with all Dynaudio loudspeakers . They're 4 ohms, so need more current than the average speaker, and as stated, produce so much bass for their cabinet sizes that they need better than the usual amplification to keep it in check (along with room placement). This is something I've tried to get across people with B&W loudspeakers too, as the same applies to the majority of their models. Mismatching speakers like these will end up with an underperforming speaker that lacks punch and precision.

David, I have an Arcam Solo Mini - do you think this is not up to my 685s? Do you think the MA RX1s would be a better match? Also, any recommendations for a close to wall speaker?

hi manicm,

I was looking at the B&W 685's but I have gone with MA RX2's at the back RX8's at the front. I have listened to a range of speakers I would recommend you also look into ATC speakers. If you look around the ATC's are more than likely hands down the best speakers I think they have been award best speakers from what hi fi for a while now. I'd recommend you speak to someone like Rick from Musicraft. He's a member on here too goes by the same name. He has great knowledge of ATC speakers and will be able to answer all your questions as he did for me.

Also if you wish you can refer to the "Shop near me...." section a few people have commented about Rick and ATC. He also does Monitor Audio and Dynaudio speakers but before you do make your final choice please please do listen to the ATC they are the best as far as i'm and many many others are concerned.

Hope this helps

hey brolly, i know ATC are great..i used the studio monitors a couple of time

the real problem it's that is almost impossible to have a listen of them cause in my area (i'm in Italy) no reseller has it in stock !

Hi blackfinder

As there is no dealer in Italy than you are more than welcome to visit me to audition to the ATC's. I have East Midlands airport down the road with the superb Skylink bus service which will drop you off outside the shop. Some of my clients have done this so it's something for you to consider.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Thanks

The RX1's will be an easier load for the Solo, but the Solo is unusually adept at driving speakers which would normally be out of it's league. We've used ProAc, ATC, B&W, Monitor Audio amongst others, although not to any huge levels. The Solo will drive the 685's fine.
