Duplicate channels on freeview?

Does anyone know why do blank channels that appear to be duplicates of other Freeview channels keep appearing on Freeview, The channels that I'm talking about tend to appear high up in the channel numbers, and include ones such as "BBC ONE", "BBC TWO", "BBC THREE" etc. which might appear to be duplicate versions of their namesakes, but are in fact just blank screens. Can anyone explain the reason for this, and whether I will cause myself any problems by deleting them from my list of channels?

Also, what about channels such as "teletext"? Do I need these to be able to access teletext when I'm watching ITV1 or whatever? If you do need to have the channel listed as "teletext" in order for the teletext service on the ITV tv channels to work, then why?! If they can have a universal EPG which works on practically all Freeview boxes and tvs, and other universal standard features, then why can't they 'hide' these extra channels which may be necessary for all the services to work properly? After all, you don't get these unsightly issues with Sky...

If anyone could put answers to these queries that are taxing me, then I would of course be very much obliged.

Actually there are sometimes three or four different non-working duplicates, aswell as rubbish that has appeared but never worked. I live just west of London and I believe the transmitter I receive channels from is at Crystal Palace... is this area served by many transmitters?

Yup, I live in Croydon (thus served by Crystal Palace transmitter), but I have to delete duplicate channels every time there is a rescan (though I think a new TAP on my Topfield TF5800 has made it easier for me given I only have one channel to delete compared with lots from last time).
So i think transmitters is your problem without the new version of Freeview.
