Dubbing VHS to DVD

I bought a Funai DVD/VHS combo to transfer all the VHS programmes I wanted to keep. At first it was all right but now I find after using about 25 discs it refuses to format any more. I have used all the recommended discs but included some cheap Tesco and Asda ones as well. It was admittedly a cheap machine.

Can anyone suggest the best way to transfer my remaining VHS recordings on to DVD? Do I need to buy a new combo unit? If so, what can you recommend?

If you have a PC, you can use something like this. I haven't used one so can't recommend it per se, but don't think you can go far wrong for the price.
