Thank you Bigboss , With no doubt the Trimless is a better option in general ,but i can't manage to have in ceiling speakers where do I live , so my only options are either MA Mass or B&W M1 or Tannoy di5 dc all monted on ceiling as TF and TR . My concerns are the dispersion and tonal matching however the Tannoy has 90 degree dispersion but I prefere to stick with MA , what do you think ?

i can go for Trimless but then I have to put them in mdf custom made boxes so I can mount the boxes .

Replace your surround speakers with Mass and play a movie. If you like it, there's no reason why Mass can't be used as overhead speakers. Otherwise, as you say, make MDF boxes for Trimless 200.

Do or can One hear a difference between dolby atmos and other up to date sound formats .... or is it just another brilliant thing for folks to spend their hard earned cach on ? *drinks*

Check AV forums reviews of Dolby Atmos.

And read our review of Dolby Atmos in the latest (Jan) issue of the mag p.54-57 - it definitely makes a difference if you have room to accommodate it.

I think more Dolby Atmos content is my biggest concern at the moment, not speaker choice.
So far, there are only 2 movies available on UK Blu-ray disc with Dolby Atmos encoding - Transformers 4 and Expendables 3. There's also the great demo disc from Dolby - but I'm getting bored of it now!

I'd ordered "Step Up All In 5", for no other reason than the tauted Atmos soundtrack, only to find the UK market has been short-changed with DTS HD-MA instead. My disc has been retruned to Amazon.co.uk un-opened. You only get Atmos on the US Blu-ray.

Makes you wonder if "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" will retain its Atmos soundtrack when it's released over here?

The movie studios and Dolby need to do much better if they expect Atmos to be a success in the home. Dolby did a great job in getting the AV Receiver manufactures onboard, but without Atmos content on major Blu-ray releases such "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" and "Guardians of the Galaxy" - which were mixed in Atmos for their cinamatic releases - I fear the worst.

Surely Dolby atmos receivers utilise the ceiling channels even when playing a non atmos soundtrack, thereby making it worthwhile having such a setup regardless of dedicated content right now?

Of more interest to me is the way atmos encodes things, I.e. as discreet sounds in a 3d virtual space as opposed to channel data. That's the reason I want dedicated atmos disks - to get the ultimate level of realism. Following on, isn't this the ultimate in music reproduction too???

You may find some studios are waiting on DTS' equivalent.

"Guardians of the Galaxy"

Hi James

TF4 and now Expandables 3 soundtracks which i find to be loud, boomy, and soft. Just noise

Guardians Of The Galaxy i find to be almost flat with hardly any power

I feel in the first instance Dolby, DTS and Auro need to ensure the quality soundtracks from the movie studios is of much higher quality. I'd rather listen to a high quality soundtrack in 5.1 rather then a weak one spread over a million channels.

All the best

This is why I'm waiting on DTS receivers. That and a speaker solution I can live with.

This, I think, is the main issue facing these new sound formats. I'm guessing most installations will be in-wall/in-in-ceiling.

Yes they'll prob become more popular, along with style packages.

i wonder if NXT panels will come back in. They're not for me, but they'd be easiy to install.

I don't think it's all down to the studios making the movies. You got to take in to account the Authoring houses creating the discs. How many aside from the ones that have already done Dolby Atmos discs are even equiped to encode the audio correctly yet. I asked my old boss and he said they may not get involved with Dolby Atmos. As I said in another post they didn't even have a 7.1 QC set up. Of course they could encode 7.1 but it may mean some upgrades that the authoring houses won't want to shell out for if it doesn't take off. The studios will incur extra cost getting discs authored in Dolby Atmos. It's all poltics.

I've seen many a film credits that have said DTS in selected theaters but the UK release of the film on disc has not had a DTS soundtrack. Even Frozen says Dolby Atmos in selected theaters at the end of the credits.

I bet it we be a long time before we get Frozen on BD or an UHD format with an Atmos soundtrack for the home.

It will I guess also come down too the film maker annd if they want to hve an Atmosphere mix created. But Hopefully DTS getting on board will pus they right people to get things going.

It's always worth waiting a few years to see what new Tech does as I'm sure you know. The industry doesn't want to wait and go through the right channels before letting it out in to the end user domain. They throw it out hoping Enthusiasts will rush out a buy to justify pushing it on everyone else.

That's my view anyway.

I've just ordered the x4100 from Peter tyson at £749 with 3 year warranty. It's come down significantly in price since before Christmas. I'm going for a 5.1.2 configuration with up firing speakers. I'm unable to accommodate in ceiling speakers without doing major plaster work in the walls to hide the cables. If I decide to go for a 5.1.4 cinfiguration, I will look at an additional amp to add onto the Denon later.

Any one heard these speakers for atmos onkyo SKH-410? Very reasonable in price?
+1 I'm interested two as with my new amp I could easily go for a 5.1.2 set up with these...
As I've already said: time for a reputable mag to do some comparative tests of different atmos solutions. *hint* :)

I will be going for a 5.1.4 Atmos setup once I get a new AV receiver. I already have 4 ceiling speakers connected and while they are not in the perfect position for Atmos, hopefully the room acoustic correction on the receiver will be able to compensate.

What are you going to get Buzz to replace the LX83? Thats a very good amp mate for SQ?

I have heard the benefit of Atmos and Auro in a high end home setup - but I still standby the main channels overall sound quality is more important than more channels for less quality and more important again is the bass

I have also heard the benefit of ESS Sabre Dacs in a Pioneer Streamer - I think I would be looking for a device using them as a starting point
