Does What HiFi test power output for amplifiers, nominal impedance and sensitivity for speakers

Does What Hi Fi still test to judge the accuracy of the figures supplied by manufacturers, and, if so would it be possible to publish these with each review?

There's a general belief that, for example, NAD and Naim exceed their published power output, while Dynaudio speakers are thought to be difficult to drive despite their published figures. Also, given that figures for amps are published for 4/8 ohms while it's not unusual (at lest from what I've read elsewhere) to find the impedance around the 6 ohm mark for speakers, it would make matching speaker and amps a little easier.

Ah well. Whatever happened to the days when people were interested in things like this?

Might as well hitch up my zimmer frame and head towards the fridge for some lunch.ÿ

Ever heard the phrase "Patience is a virtue"?

Despite appearances the entire staff aren't just sitting around here waiting for people to ask them questions, they have their real jobs to do as well.

Well, apart from Andrew obviously.... but he's not on the test team.

There is one magazine that does test for all this, but obviously it cannot be mentioned due to forum rules.

I am sure you know which one though.

I am also sure someone from the WHF team will tell you why it is not a good idea to comprehensively test for and publish all these variables. (a) Someone else already does it. (b) It would decimate the WHFS&V readership figures.

Most people (I am not necessarily saying myself or you or any other forum members*) generally just don't want to know this stuff anymore. That may be a 'sadness' but there you are.

* I actually enjoy delving back through things like BBC R&D papers online that relate to speakers and other topics concerning audio. (Where I can understand them.) How about one from 1974 of the audible 'tolerance' of digital timing jitter.... http://downloads.bbc.co.uk/rd/pubs/reports/1974-11.pdf

It's a clause, but yes. Actually, I re-phrased a badly expressed post and bumped it to reflect the changes, that's all. I probably should have deleted it and started again.
