does a new subwoofer need breaking in like speakers

Yes, I would say the same. Not so long ago, I bought the B&W ASW610 from my local hi-fi store. They told me that it would sound a little "muddy" the first month or two.

It does, as any other speaker. Several hours on moderate volume should do just fine, though you are unlikely to notice major signs of improvement, this being a sub.

wonderful news and thanks both for your advise-i was hoping that would be the case. am very happy with it out the box but the idea it might sound better in time makes me feel all warm and tingly. I did strongly consider the b&w sub but for £300 new, deliverd, the asw12 won the day.
