Do any of you still use an FM tuner?

I thought I'd leave the 'No real hifi is without an FM tuner' as I will never win that one but I do listen to classical FM amongst others and also like topical discussions.

I really like the sound of my cyrus tuner and think it is a great source of entertainment.

Any of you still using one and what make is it?

Does the radio in my car count?

Sometimes in my upstairs room (man's cave) with my old technics receiver. In the livingroom radio is digital via fiberglass.

Yes, use it daily - my Linn Classik by the side of my bed, been a great companion over the years, enjoy radio 3 and 4 and occasionally radio 2 in bed.....

Yep..denon tu 260L I listen to radio three..i never listen to classic fm.

My 1987 vintage Technics Quartz Synthesizer LW/MW/FM Stereo Tuner ST-G450L sits quietly amongst my kit and gets used occasionally to listen to Chris Needs in his garden.

I bought my Quad FM4 tuner 32 years ago in Lasky's, Southend. (You're old if you remember Lasky's)

I used it for about 30 years before taking it out of service in favour of radio from a Freesat box. The FM4 is boxed up complete ready for possible sale but I got it out again the other day (as its internal ni-cad backup battery needs occasional top ups)

Connected back to the 5 element roof aerial, giving it full signal, I reminded myself how natural its FM sound was even if the source of that sound and the way it's carried pre- transmission is digital.

(Funny enough the satellite-only radio station I listen to, Solar Radio, often uses vinyl sources, CDRs I've made of it I've called 'Vinyl from space')

Over the years I've done a few repairs on the Quad but it still looks and sounds as new.

I've got a Denon TU-460L tuner in the cabinet at the moment, used mainly to listen to Radio 4, so yes I still use FM.

Cabinet Minister is being urged by digital radio pushers to switch off FM. (Or at least leave it for local radio only) Unsurprisingly, he and his predecessors keep putting off the decision which was originally slated for 2015.

Not me, just dab radio for me. Roberts.

I have a Leak Delta tuner. Sounds almost as good as the freesat box, but not quite.

Not any more. I had a very good Sony ES digital tuner - pre remote conrol era. It also had medium & long wave bands. It's in a cupboard.

Most of my stereo radio listening is from my plasma TV - optical out into my Dac, FM was a clever system with mono being L+R but the stereo part of L-R was AM so prone to poor SNR & birdies. It was fine if you you see the Xmitter.

Most of my listening hasn't changed - the Third Program, the Home Service & John Peel who was originally on the Light Program before R1 went FM now simply R3, R4, R2 & R1 respectively,

I have an internet/DAB radio with 2nd speaker in my bedroom as an alarm, a DAB in my kitchen & one in the bathroom. I use TuneIn on my iPhone. I did listen to R7 constantly until the BBC killed. R4Extra is an insult.

Yep: and a Cyrus tuner, though likely not yours as you have modern stuff if I recall 🙂

I have an FM radio on my MP3 player. I try it about once per year then realise how rubbish and annoying other peoples choice in music, adverts and cacophonous sounding DJs are and promptly turn it off.

I remember Lasky's! Do you remember Guy Norris in the precinc?

You're old too then cse (but you probably knew that)

The name Guy Norris really rings a bell but I couldn't say where it was in the precint or even what it was - If it was a record shop I should feel ashamed for not knowing but mine was Golden Disc, Queens Road for years before it became HMV.

Couldn't agree more about the detestable adverts. I listen quite a bit to Jazz FM - strangely named because it's often not Jazz and these days it's broadcast on everything but FM.

The thing is, research must have told them that many of their listeners are A1 types (which I'm most certainly not) so all ads seem to be for fine wines, financial advisors and upmarket cars.

I actually don't mind the choices of music from some of the 'DJs' (It's obvious when they really know and love their music) but those poxy adverts.

I have got two red, wall mounted, mute buttons (one each end of the room) that I made for my Cyrus amp. When they start reading those T&C on the car ads I'm like lightning muting the audio (at the same time as saying f*** off)

lol thought it was only me who felt a bit under-class for their adverts. Best thing for me on Jazz FM is Claire Anderson's late lounge, I love listening in bed at night. Though I went five years not listening to it between the station disappearing off FM and me buying a DAB radio, and I was surprised to find when I returned she was playing largely the exact same stuff.

until recently when I made a new unit for the hi-fi and decided not to include the tuner. Couldn't even give it away so it's in a box in a cupboard. I now use TuneIn and occasionally Shoutcast for mainly 60's and 70's era pop and rock but there's thousands of stations between those two.

Recently put my vintage JVC tuner in the loft. Had occasionally listened to 5Live on it, but not fm for years. Car is DAB so no fm listened to there either. The wife listens to fm in hers. Don't mind it, but agree with others above with regards to how utterly awful the djs tend to be.

I listen to FM in the car for the news on the way to work. Luckily our local public radio station is very good in and of itself for both U S national AND international news (most Americans don't actually know there's this place called "the rest of the World", remember, other than if Uncle Sam is bombing part of it). Also they broadcast a lot of BBC World Service stuff.
Other than that radio around here isn't worth listening to.
Now who's shagging who on The Archers these days?

In the loft I have a Denon TU260L but I listen to Internet radio via Sonos. Last night I tuned into Sydney Australia, Orlando, Germany and Antarctic Radio. Truly remarkable!

While visiting Orlando we liked listening to Magic and tried to tune in back in the UK. Apparently we were blocked and had to have a code to access it which is only given out to serviceman. Can't see it being much of a security risk if the world listened in to pop and agony aunts

Oh dear, I guess that means I'm old, I wasn't planning to be old until next year at the earliest! Thanks Gray *secret*

I bought my first amp from Lasky's in Bristol, I thought I'd bought an Akai AMU2 but when I got it home to my delight I discovered an AMU3 in the box. I remember that my dear old Dad told me to call them to point out their mistake, so I did and to my double delight they weren't bothered, I kept it for years *biggrin*
