Have almost finished decorating sons room and my dilema now is how can I listen to Spotify through my system (bit dated now so maybe only classed as Medium-Fi) in the living room.

My PC is in sons room therefore I think my best/only option is connecting Wireless Laptop (Samsung Netbook NC10) via headphone socket to my Naim 42.5 pre-amp empty Tuner Socket with clicky
Open to any other better options/suggestions or am I correct that thats it.

While doing my own investigation I suppose if I'm after Spotify I might as well go the whole hog and add digital from PC so on this new requirement I'm assuming that I could put a DACMAGIC or Beresford 7520 beside HIFI in living room then I could connect laptop via USB and wireless stream to laptop from audio files on main PC in bedroom .

DAC would connect to NAIM via Phono to DIN connector and I could possibly even get better CD quality by optical/co-ax connection from my Marantz CD60SE to the DACMAGIC.

Am I thinking along the right lines here or what other options available. Most of my music is bought on CD but difficult to find some stuff now due to storage space so lossless from PC could help . How could I control it ? would Foobar 2000 be any good as I'm one of those hate/anti-Apple chaps so no I-Tunes .

Hi, a few remarks:

The nice thing is that you can test most things without any costs (up to the moment you buy a dac), so I would try first (analog) what workflow works best for you and then buy the high quality equipment needed. Foobar is fine and flexible but requires some investment to get it running the way you like it. See PJPRO's post. I use MediaMonkey, runs out of the box.

I also use a netbook, via MF VDAC. If you want to hook up more equipment like your CD a Dacmagic seems logical. I aim to ditch my cd player altogether.

I do not understand the role of the pc in the final system. It will work, but why always have two pc's running? I have an external HD for FLACs coonected to my netbook (euro 80 for 500 Gb will keep you busy for a while) that makes it more flexible, without needing wireless and an extra pc. Or you could add storage as a NAS to your router. Your son might also come to appreciate it..

Pete PC in bedroom would initially store the music since more free space than laptop (which is sons anyway) , router/wireless router there as well ultimately if I rip a lot of my CD's / vinyl I'd would go the NAS route.

Yes son would like it he uses Spotify quite a bit (He's 10)
