My older brother just called me, which was odd in itself as he never phones me. The strangest part was how excited he was to tell me this new fact he learnt. Apparently Bush are named after they lived: Shepherd’s Bush.

I’m never answering my phone again.

There's a non-profit in Tanzania called Apopa, which trains African giant pouched rats. They can sniff out land mines, illegally-traded animals and Tuberculosis. They are considerably better than the available lab methods, and cost $1.10 a test. The far less reliable smear test costs $3, and a more accurate genetic test costs $17. Alas they can only be used as a back-up to lab testing as they are now WHO-approved.
