Hello all WHFI readers and staff,

Please help me if you can all ideas will be gratefully recieved. My problem is as follows:

I have shipped all my AV kit to Saudi where all works well. The std TV is shocking so have finally took the plunge and signed up for "Showtime" Sat TV. All is well with that too until I come to hook it up via my Denon 4308 amp connected to my Pioneer PDP508XD.

I have the same issue with my Denon i-pod dock.

The only way to connect the Showtime box to my amp is via RCA (Red, white and yellow) there is no HDMI, or composite, there is a component out and an optical.

Basically when I connect using the red and white for audio and the yellow for video to the amp the pioneer will only display with a terrible green hue to everything.

When switched to other sources (such as Denon 2500BT or my Toshiba HD1) all is well and the colour palate is fine again.

As I mentioned above my i-pod is the same, I have come to the conclusion that I must be doing something fundamentally wrong at the GUI stage regarding RCA inputs.

Please help, after watching the guy spend 3 hours installing this to get a green picture is sending me crazy!!!!

Oh ps, have got it all to work if I bypass the amp and plug the Red, white and yellow directly to the plasma, but obviously this is not the solution I want.

Eagerly anticipating your replies

Cameron.

Could you run audio to the amp and video (yellow) to the TV? You would need to select inputs twice probably (amp and TV), but you should get good picture and sound(?).

WingedWonder - I could but I have my plasma wall mounted with HDMI cable hidden, don't really want to go down that route. There must be a way the video signal can be sent through the amp via something a little more 2010 than a yellow RCA lead!!!! To be honest would even accept the RCA lead as long as the picyure wasn't green.

Andrew the Showtime model number is DVR 3001S and the i-pod dock is the Denon ASD - 3W, the showtime box does have a component out but the dock has only the RCA leads plus the control lead.

Do you think it could be a firmware issue???

Any help would be fantastic.

Cheers

Cameron

Sorry - haven't been ignoring you - just trying to find out some more.
Done some digging, and I think I have found some info on the box.
It appears to be the same as this one.

And the bad news is that your choice is between composite video output on the yellow video socket, or RGB and possibly S-video on the Scart output.

None of which helps too much: the Denon can't accept an RGB input, only a component YPbPr one, so that won't do.

In fact, the only way beyond what you have now, which admittedly is unsatisfactory, might be to try a Scart-to-S-video adapter in the Scart output, connected to the receiver using an S-video cable. Won't be great, but will be better than composite video.

This link will open a PDF document which should show you how to get into the menus and adjust the output.

I didn't think for one second that you were Andrew and deeply appreciate your help.

It does indeed look very similar to that box, nigh indentical as to the internal gubbins....who knows?

The box does have on the back what appears to be a digital coax output akin to the way my old Denon 3910DVD used to connect to my Pioneer PDP 435XDE media box, would this be a better way to connect to the amp or are you saying that the sat box only outputs RGB through everything?

I can get the sound only by connecting the optical, and just use the single yellow RCA lead straight to the panel for picture. I was just hoping there would be a way of sending it all through my amp that might produce a better quality picture.

It also has a USB socket.......at the risk of sounding like a complete idiot, can this be used as I seem to have one on the Denon too?

Thanks again Andrew, mighty impressive that you guys take the time to reply considering your obvious committments to the magazine etc.

Cameron.

The digital coax will only carry audio, and I suspect the USB socket is only there for firmware upgrades and the like.

Reply at 6.30am, do you not sleep you guys?

Then I shall see if I can get a scart to S-video lead when I'm next back in the UK.

Until then I'll stick with what I have.

Many thanks

Cameron.
