Dedicated Blu-ray or PS3?

I am about to buy a new TV and am considering a Blu-ray purchase at the same time.

The panasonic BD30 looks like the obvious choice, but I have a young family who love the Wii and I am conscious that the same money would buy a dual purpose bit of kit in the PS3.

Can anybody tell me if the PS3 is really a games machine with adequate blu-ray capabilities. Or is it a very competent blu-ray player, representing better value for money than the panasonic?

Where would viewers on the panasonic see the benefits on blu-ray, over viewers on the PS3?

Any advice is welcome

If you have a family that enjoys gaming then I'd go for the PS3. It is a decent Blu-ray player and a good upscaling DVD player. I'm happy with mine and they do regular firmware upgrades to tweak its capabilities.

Ditto, plus its excellent for storing/watching your digital pictures on TV!
