So I want to connect my laptop to my hifi via the USB port.

My question is will I get good results from a portable dac that only has a 3.5mm jack output or do I need to get one that has rca connectors? Would the latter provide a better sound?

my budget is around £100/150.

Something like a Dragonfly gives very good results if you don't need facilities for more inputs.

Having said that, I stream via a Chromecast straight into my cyrus system and can't honestly detect to much of a difference to laptop > DF > Amp.

I can highly recommend an SMSL M3 from Amazon, about 50 pounds, takes over PC sound card to give a line out, well worth the outlay
