Well, I've just had a rather expensive week winning more Cyrus equipment on eBay than I'd imagined. I'm now in the position of having all of the following: 2 Mono Xs, 1 X Power, 1 8XPd, 1 Pre XPd, 2 8VS2, 1 CD8SE, 1 CD6SE and a PSX-R, Chord Crimson and Cyrus interconnects (and my B&W CM7s, with Atlas Hyper 2.0 cables).

I'm going to have fun playing around with the various combinations, but I'm most likely to stick with the Mono Xs, Pre XPd, PSX-R and CD8SE and sell the rest (to pay off some of the debt I've just run up!). Can anyone see a really weak link in this setup?

Erm, well you say the speakers but I've listening to Spendor A5 and A6, Dynaudio Focus 220 and X32 and some truly awful KEF speakers that I can't even remember the name of (although I suspect they weren't properly run in, otherwise KEF wouldn't sell any).

So I'm open to suggestions, although I think my "bank" is going to be closed for many many months.

One thing I have discovered so far is that my Cyrus interconnects sounds much clearer than the Chord Crimson interconnects. So I guess I'm going to need to get some more of these.

Have to say the Pre XPd is a very nice piece of kit - in fact can't tell a difference between running my CD8SE through it via analogue or using a digital connection and the Pre XPd's DAC.

So, speaker suggestions? (I'd love to audition a pair of B&W 804s, but I'll need to get a new mortgage)..

Cheers,
Rich

Gusboll:
Did you win that pre xpd for £400

- Yep, and I feel like the luckiest chap on the planet at the moment, as it's truly awesome.

No, its a good set up one that Crossie would be interested in!

The B&W CM7 is the weak link and i would look at PMC for starters.

Rich,

Get yer CD8SE, PreXPd+PSX-R, MonoXs with the CM7s. Live with them for a few months.

Then when the dust's settled and you've sold all the unused gear (!). Take a good while auditioning plenty of speakers, around the £2000 to £2500 mark would seem appropriate.

You've got to home audition since the you CDs, room, ears have such a bearing on the choice you'll make.

Try and get some Spendor A9s. They are flogging 'seconds' at around £3100, mechanically perfect, less than perfect veneer supposedly. Although I wonder if it's just a cheeky way of discounting them. Either way they are fabulous and pushing the boat out will seem worth it when you hear them.
