Hello Forum,

just some days ago I was reporting about a problem with a combi of Pre XPD/X-Power compared to an 8 VS.

The problem is solved as I have found a poor connection between Phono-Pre to Pre, as the relevant interconnect has BNC plugs and one of these was not fixed properly. It was entirely my fault.

The sound of the combi is no excellant and nothing to complain.

Thanks to all members who were trying to help me.

Regards from Germany

My set up Pre XPD/X-Power, Phono pre : Lehmann Black Cube SE, Rega P3/Heed Obit 1/Benz ACE L, Arcam CD 73, Cables : Phonosophie LS 2 + Interconnects

Glad that's sorted Edgar - it did seem weird that the 8vs2 sounded better!!

Hi David,

no way and chance for my 8 VS. The combi offers so many more details, more tone and punch. I'am very happy now.

Regards

Edgar

Thats great news Edgar, sit back and enjoy the music now. welcome to the Cyrus family lol.

PS check out the cyrus unofficial forum as well.

Told you the pre and power combo should be much much better.

David (see got your name right!), I second that. The integrated with psx-r was good, but there is a big step up in performance with a pre / power.

But that is the same with every manufacturer isnt it?

To an extent, yes. But until the new 6xp and 8xp came along, we never really recommended the older 6vs2 and 8vs2's all that much, mainly because they tend to err on the lean side, and are quite forward sounding with a strong treble. They were also a littel underpowered, especially the 6vs2, which you just couldn't use with a 4ohm speaker, it didn't have the guts. Their pre/powers don't exhibit these characteristics, and will suit more people and systems. In the right system they'd walk all over the competition, but badly matched they just sounded harsh and thin, which I think is why so many people assume that that is a Cyrus trait - it's not, it's just that they may have heard a badly set up/matched system and assumed the whole range sounds like that.

Sorry to those who own those amplifiers, but those are my views on them

haha its alright I own one of the integrated amps and I wont go home and cry....

I am in the hunt for new standmounts that will have to go near the wall, and not be too big as well, maybe 35cm's tall max. What would you recomend say upto £2K?

Was going to look at the 805s, wilson benesch sq1 and some others. Would rather a sound to complement the cyrus, so a smooth neutral sounding speaker. Also, as it will be close to the wall, maybe not rear ported.

The WB's will work well close to a wall, but not sure about matching them to Cyrus. I personally found that the Square 1 wasn't just a Square 2 with less bass - it lost almost everything that the Square 2 was about. I like the Square 2's, but really dislike the Square 1's.

I assume this is for the pre/power?

It might be worth starting a new thread.....go on, do a Max

i agree with your comments about the 8vs2 David, it is a different beast with the psxr tho as im sure you know. After hearing an 8xp i thought it was very similar to my 8vs2 + psxr pairing. The xp must sound great with a psxr,

Yep, speakers for the pre and power, the bedroom system in my sig.
