Constant tone from subwoofer

My subwoofer emits a constant tone sometimes. Can anyone suggest why this might be? It is rather annoying when it happens, and I would like to stop it.

All help / ideas welcome.

i had that and just bought a new lead and it works fine, i bought a 5m one ebay thats when the problem started and now just use a 3m one from richer sounds

My sub lead does run very close to several other leads. I'm not actually using a dedicated sub cable - it's just one half of a twin-phono lead. Can you recommend a sub cable with good shielding?

i just bought a £15 one from richer sounds, cause i could not bring myself to spend more than that. it works well and yes i found my cheap one was well to long and it picked up all sorts i did cut it down by putting tin-foil all around it but it looked a right mess
