Okay, I admit it - I'm a complete idiot, but Switchover's looming here in Devon, and I'm panicking! I've got a pretty good Sony CRT (non-digital, non-HD-ready), a capable Sony 5:1 surround system, a good Sony DVD/HD recorder, an average JVC VHS, and a standard Sky box. Terrible terrestrial reception, so no Freeview, and not predicted for the future, either. Can obviously record terrestrial channels now, but after switchover, how do I connect everything up so that it works? Will I be able to record at all just on Sky with my analogue only recorder? What box connects to what in what order and with what cables? I told you I was a complete idiot!

With a Scart connection from the Sky box to one of your recorders, and then on to the TV, you'll be able to record whatever you're watching.

However, you won't be able to record one programme while watching another, so if you want to do that it may be worth considering either an upgrade to Sky+, which has twin tuners and built-in recording, or a switch to Freesat, for which you can buy decoder/recorders such as the unit from Humax, which will also 'record one while watching another'.

Cheers Andrew! So it's Dish to Sky box, scart connect to DVD recorder then another scart to tv, bur where in this connectivity do I place the surround amp/dedicated dvd player and the VHS so that everything can run through the surround? Appreciate your help. Thanks.
