Hi
I am using an old Teac 580 av receiver with bluray and of cause I am only getting DolbyDigital or DTS sound. Wanting to start enjoying the modern higher-res surround sounds I was looking at the ranges of Sony and others (the lower end ones) hoping to get an inexpensive modern receiver, but could not find any that would fit on a 155mm tall shelf that my rack has.

Do you know any decent compact or even full-size receivers that woulf fit?

Even though the Marantz is only 10.5cm tall, the manual recommends 20cm clearance top, sides and rear to ensure sufficient air-flow and prevent overheating.

Thanks, gents. That was a quick response!
I checked the Marantz out and it does not have pre outs. I need those as I want to use active speakers for front L&R. Am I stuck?

TBH, I would look at a new rack which would open up far more possibilities. There are numerous receivers around 150mm if you check but this leaves you naff all clearance above. I would ignore the recommended clearances as they're completely unrealastic but allow for a couple of inches. My current receiver has about 3.5" gap at the top, which is way short of what Denon recommend and I have a large-ish AV rack. Have a look at the shelf heights on most AV Racks and you'll see what I mean. Some receivers run hotter than others. Onkyo have always had a reputation for running hotter although I'm not sure about their current stuff.

I agree - a couple of inches should be OK, provided there are no obstructions to the air flow below, above and to the sides of the receiver and in general the rack is "open".

re size: hmmmm... I would like to stay compact and definately do not want to change racks as I have just recently got a new one. Some of the Yamahas are 151mm tall but the models do not have multichannel output...
Even at a premium, I would like to stay compact and not have a full-size receiver. If I cannot find anything now I wil probably continue to use the old teac 580 and watch if anything compact comes out... Teac? Linn Classik BluRay?
