Hi All

I'm looking for a bit of advice regarding some closed back headphones. I've got some AKG 702's but rarely use them as they leak sound so much and annoy the rest of the household, i've also got some Sennheiser HD380 pro's which are pretty good. I think i'll keep them as they are easy to drive and will be handy for the odd recording session. Has anyone got any advice on replacing the AKG's, i like the detail that they give but need a bit more bass and are too leaky. The obvious choice would be the K550 but i have heard there has been a few problems with fit.

I've tried to get hold of some Denon AH-D2000's but that is now looking very unlikely.

Any advice would be gratefully received

Cheers, Ed 🙂

Now I know I'm a little weird on this one but i like the K702 (I have the Q701 and assume it's similar/same), but I do not like the K550 at all. Some people think I'm nuts but for me the poor fit makes the bass impossible to get and even if you sit there with both hands squashing the HP hard to your head continuously the bass isn't what I would call 'powerful'. Nowhere near the Denon D2000!!

How much are are you looking to spend? I wonder if the new V-Moda M-100 will fit your needs. Sorry I am obsessed by this one at the moment, it's not out yet but it promises to be a bigger, better M-80 and that's kinda blowing my mind ATM because I truly love that one! I think it will be priced around £200-250 (total guess - US price is $300), it will be announced with the iPhone 5 on the 12th of Sept, launched soon after.

I've never heard any of the vmoda's but they sound like they should be auditioned. I'm going to the National Audio show in a couple of weeks and apparently there's gonna be quite a few cans there to try out. I reckon thats the best move before I make any decisions.

Cheers, Ed

Does anyone know where i can get hold of some Denon AH-D2000 headphones? I've tried just about everywhere but without luck. There is one site that are selling them called SLR Hut but it looks a bit dodgy to me. Any ideas anyone?

Cheers, Ed

Thanks for the link, i'm a bit unsure about buying a used pair without seeing any photo's and the seller has zero feedback. I have never bought anything used from Amazon before.

Cheers, Ed

I saw a new pair being sold off in an HMV the other day for £150. Might be worth ringing your local branch as they don't have them on the website.

Following on from what Quadpatch said about HMV - I picked up a pair at T3 Heathrow (there was one more on the rack) for 124 quid, so if you have any friends travelling that could be an option too. Good luck....

I've called my local HMV and the main HMV number, i've called Denon, i've tried just about everywhere but no luck.

Thanks for your help guys 🙂

Ed

I am sure I have seen them at HMV (Braehead near Glasgow). A drummer friend of mine loves his Goldring NS1000s, though they still leak a bit of noise. The AKG K241s hardly leak anything, but may be a bit bass light for drums.

I got some today yeeeeeeees! HMV Oxford, they were the last pair for £149, I am well chuffed and they sound fantastic. I've just compared them to my HD 380 pro's and are in a different league, i much prefer them to the AKG's too!

Cheers, Ed 🙂 🙂

I've been reading the Innerfidelity test documents for a year now and there are Denons listed with "JMoney pads", whatever those are. I wondered if you are familiar with those. The Denons do seem to have the flattest test curves overall.
