The BBC are finally switching from broadcasting it's HD channels in DVB-S to DVB-S2 mode on 6th june.

With DVB-S2 being more efficient, hopefully we'll se an improvement in PQ

I take it, that would also mean an increase in the resolution of Freeviw HD?

We have a Sony 46hx703 which so far hasn't had any problems with the sound on BBC HD. I do use the info button to see if it's 1080p or i when watching.

Hopefully this will solve the annoying white dot in the bottom right corner of the BBC HD picture which many people see if they watching with picture overscan turned off.

Would also be good if they used this switch to follow Sky's lead and remove the wretched DOGS

Well the BBC have done it.

Had a problem with my Panasonic DMR-XS350EB in that the BBC HD channels were missing this morning and would not come back with "Auto Setup". Had to reset the unit to"Shipping Condition" first and then run "Auto Setup" again, which has cured the problem.

So anyone with one of this family of Panasonic units, this should fix it for you.

Switched over at 2.44 am.

Lots of reports on other forums that Pana TVs (mainly '08 models) have had problems retuning and owners have had to resort to full factory resets to be able to receive them, also reports of Sky+HD boxes not working either, (seems to be mainly limited to those with the Irish epg, or NE and SW region for the UK, and mainly Thomson boxes)

And lots of complaints from HTPC users (who didn't have the foresight to include DVB-S2 tuners in their build) who now can't watch them at all...

Thought that was my problem at first until I realised that CH4HD was being broadcast on DVB-S2 so I looked elsewhere for the problem then.

My 2010 Panny TV had also lost the channels this morning, but a simple "freesat tune" got them back. The Humax *seemed* to have sorted it out by itself overnight, but unless I'm just psyching myself out, PQ had dropped, but was restored by manually retuning anyway.

As things stand now, I think BBC 1 HD is slightly softer than BBC HD on both units, even though I remember them as on par previously. Anyone have before and after average technical details (1440 vs 1920, average bitrates) yet?

Res is still the same 1440 x 1080, bitrates it's difficult to say since they switched to VBR last year (so average bitrates don't really tell you much), but linowsat is reporting averages of 8mbps for BBC One HD and 8.5mbps for BBC HD for yesterday, hasn't been updated to show todays yet, though i don't expect they'll be much different tbh.

I did check out some TG footage on the promo loop earlier and some of the more demanding stuff was maxing out at 16mbps, pretty much as it did before the switch.

Interestingly though, the BBC HD txp is now carrying 7 extra (though not actually broadcasting any data ATM) Data channels, so it doesn't look like the BBC are going to be using the extra bandwidth for a temp 3D channe, or BBC2 HDl as many thought they would.

Well I've still not got BBC1HD and BBC HD on sky, but my freesat in the bedroom is working ok. Tried powering down sky box and still no joy. I'm in Aberdeen so would be good to hear from others in the NE of Scotland to see what they are experiencing.

Theres Report's of Sky+HD users with STV North region cards not getting the BBC HDs elsewhere.

Try removing your viewing card, then re-booting your Sky+HD box and see if you can view the BBC HDs (still without the viewing card inserted).

Thanks for the Daveh75.

I'm on nightshift so wont get a chance to try that in the morning. Just spoke to my folks and their sky's working fine and they have an Amstrad box like mine.

Daveh95,

I tried your suggestion and still no joy. I've also tried a planner rebuild which still hasn't worked. The model number of my box is an Amstrad DMR-V19.

Wondering if its worth calling Sky and seeing if I can get a new 1tb box as a result of this.

Anyone got any other suggestions.

Oh triffic, although I think mine's an Amstrad.

Mine was working fine when I got home but if last night's Eastenders was in HD I'd be amazed, it looked dreadful.

This seems to be working on the Thomsons, worth a try on your Amstrad....

Try doing a 'new installation'. (but before doing so, check if you have any manually added channels in the 'Other Channels' menu, and if you have delete them)

To do a 'New Installation', press services, then 001 select in quick succession, then 6 to take you to the 'New Install' option, then just follow the onscreeen instructions.

Didn't think EE was shot in HD? Thought they were awaiting a new HD set to be built?

I've no idea to be honest, but I thought it looked better than that previously. Springwatch looked ok on BBCHD though.

Daveh75,

I found that fix on sky's user forum. Just tried it and it works. I've also added ITV1 HD again and everything working ok.

Thanks for your efforts in helping me.
