Dear all

I am thinking of adding two center channel speakers (either JBL studio 520 or JBL LC2) aa aurround speakers. Both for back and side in order to get aa much freq range as possible.

The other oprion ia flooratanders...

Please advice

Technically (I think), the 'ideal' would be 5 identical speakers. Mixers could utilise the full frequency across.all 7 channels. In practice few will have a room big enoigh or acoustically good enough to gain any benefit. Most will have rears set to small in which case a crossover around 80hz will negate the benefit of bassy rears. I would concentrate more on what speaker can be placed best in yr room which usually amounts to standmount/wall mount equating to sealed or front ported. Summary? What ever u fancy spending money on

One authoriaitive person is David at Frank Harvey Hi-Fi, who has firm views on the subject, and with his huge experience of course I defer to him. However, I find that I prefer having "floorstanding" (though I still raise them on supports of various kinds) speakers for rear surrounds, and in the receiver menu I set the surround speakers to "Large". That is the case in three out of my four rooms; in the fourth and smallest room because of space limitations I have wall- mounted surround speakers, and they are small and set to "Small" in the receiver's menu.
