I have downgraded my system selling my Lector 7T CDP and Graaf GM50 Amp as I hardly ever used the CDP and found a used Alchemist forseti for £250 which really impressed me.......any way I bought a used Roksan Kandy MKIII CDP for £180 as just thought it was best to have one on hand if the urge ever took me to use it, I just put a few CDs in the Roksan and compared them to the same tracks using spotify and a Beresford 7520 and was surprised that the Roksan trounced the Spotify (premium higher bit rate) and Beresford on every track....good job i bought the CDP

Cheers

agreed, but you get a higher bit rate on premium (I think) just thought the sound would be closer than it was

good job £180 seems a good price. I have not that sort of money but after cambridge audio finish giving my ca640h a service im selling it to a mate and then buying a dac(90% sure im going for a dac magic) and doing the spotify thing. So main question to you wickerman is hoe close would the dac sound to a lesser cd player say my ca 640. Or are you saying that most £200 plus cdplayers will sound better. The next question is i guess my floorstanders are only £450 so they might not show the bad areas of spotify/good parts of cd like the ones your using which i guess are 1k plus

Yes you do get a higher bitrate IF you have turned it on under "preferences", but it is still far inferior to lossless. I have compared spotify to lossless files several times using my ex dacmagic and the lossless files comming out of itunes are far better. 🙂

BTW im not saying that the bereshford dac is better than your Roksan cd player. Im simply saying that if you are going to compare them then feed the Bereshford with proper lossless files 🙂

...of course it is turned on......happy with the spotify sound just got curious to compare to the CDP, cheers for your input

i've directly compared a beresford/lossless with kandy mk.lll cdp. the kandy is a fair bit better, imo.
