I think with HDMI and other digital cables, all you would need to do is to measure if the digits that went in one end came out the other intact!

please someone correct me if im wrong, but isnt the contention of those who say HDMIs differ, that they differ regardless of the fact that all the bits are intact...?

Partially ~ JITTER is the main one (Meaning all bits are intact, but not spaced exactly right)

Ah. well im leaving that one - ive seen things get spactacularly out of hand in jitter threads in the past, and im not scientifically qualified (but the, i guess id just need to hear something with lots of it and something with little or non - if it can be measured); i just know there is tremendous controversy over the audibility of its effects.

Thanks for the tip tho.

I just think that there must be ways of scientifically measuring most of the things that are commonly debated, and I'm curious as to why it's never been tried!

There have been many in depth lab tests and measurements over the years with all types of interconnects and they all came up the same - no measureable differences

Sorry, but that is just tosh. It is extremely simple and common to measure things like resistance, capacitance and impedence in cables.

Ah, sorry, I more meant in this mag in particular

I trust WH-F, whereas many of the tests on the net... not so trustworthy!

It's clear that this is a very emotive subject, and as much as I admire the mag for doing the blind tests with readers, I'd love it if they'd go a bit further and do some sort of feature that showed measurable differences. There seems to be plenty of devices and software on the market now for measuring acoustic performance, AV amps even have measurement and calibration equipment on-board, so I'm sure a publication like What Hi-Fi could get their hands on some more serious kit for their demo room

I'm not on a particular side of the fence on this argument myself. I do believe some of the hi-fi 'myths', but find it hard to comprehend how others can be true. I just want to know whether or not I'm wasting my pennies, or if I need to spend more!
