Hi guys

After some sterling recommendations on here I am ready to buy a Pioneer Kuro 5090 tomorrow 😀

While I'm there I'm going to pick up a mini hifi and I wondered if someone could recommend some bookshelf speakers in the £80-150 range.

I will be buying everything from Richer Sounds and hoping for a decent discount due to the amount of things I am buying so Richer Sounds recommendations only please.

As I say I am going in for the TV etc. tomorrow so any recommendations would be most welcome, I'm still in a quandary about them!

Many thanks in advance 🙂

I would go for the Tannoy Mercury F1 Custom £90 in Richer Sounds - superb speakers.

Don't forget stands and cable too. Should be able to get the Tannoys, stands and cable for about £150.

Many thanks for the speedy replies, that's really helpful!ÿ

So you would rate the Tannoys above any other speakers up to £150? Good grief, they must be good! I had heard good things about the ÿMordaunt 902i, but they are another £50 above the Tannoys.

Yes I will have to get cabling, thanks for reminding me, stands won't be needed though, they are only for the bedroom and part of their function will be a glorified alarm clock so they will be happy enough sitting on a chest of drawers I think. 😉ÿ

I think the Tannoys will be more than adequate if they're only being placed on a chest of drawers.

the 902 are great speaker ive got a couple of pairs myself on bedroom setups saying that i havent heard the tanoys and ive always heard good things .

I have the Tannoy's in my bedroom and originally had 1 of my speakers on a chest of drawers with the other on a seperate table. I then invested in a pair of stands and.......WOW, what a difference! If you can in any way accommodate stands, buy them!!

The Tannoys aren't better than anything, but they're bl--dy good and spectacular value. If you wanted to spend all your money I'd get Wharfedale Diamond 9.1s (which I prefer over the Mordaunt Short 902s, but that's just me, you might like the MSs better). But if you could save 60 quid on the Tannoys and get separates instead, as Joel says..........

Edit - just FYI, the Tannoys are pretty chunky and if you want something smaller to be accommodated in a bedroom, you might find Q Acoustics 1010is (or, seeing as you're in Richer Sounds, Cambridge S30s) a bit more discreet - all of those speakers would be more than enough...

Good pick, the 1010s are excellent little speakers given how cheap they are.ÿ

Actually, if you're looking for a good deal, check out some used kit - £150-£170 will get you a pair of Mission 751s - these are cracking speakers, will outshine anything currently available for the money you've got and originally sold for £300-odd 15 years or so back.

Utterly brilliant imaging, fast, detailed and hugely enjoyable with a decent bass. Designed by Henry Azima I think, one of the company's most celebrated designers, these can be had for even less money on Ebay. Find a pair in good condition (easy enough) and you won't regret it.

Given the urgency of the original post, I have a feeling the credit card has already been swiped
