building a 7.2 setup

what practical roadmap should i follow to build my existing hifi system(Denon 2600 AVR with Elac Debut B6.2 bookshelf speakers) to say a 7.2 hi fi system adding components as per my budget in a phased manner..like adding surrounds, rear speakers, subwoofer floor standers, centre speakers etc.in which way should these components be added. im on the existing setup since almost 6 years and only listen to streamed music. this hifi system willl continue to play strfeamed music..am not interested in any movies etc.thanks.Anirudh

Why do you want to play 2 channel music on a multichannel system? It'll sound better if you shift to a two channel amp and better stereo speakers.

well i somehow cant get rid of the existing hi fi setup.hence this question(so do i add up lets say a subwoofer?)..

I don't think that you will improve it by heading down the road you are suggesting.

If you are only ever going to be listening to 2 channel music then there is no need to go above 2 speakers, however a subwoofer (Or 2) should definitely improve the sound when setup correctly. (I suspect your speakers are not in an optimised position if you cant move things and the subwoofer will help)
