Budget Subwoofer Help

I've started piecing together a budget sound system and so far I have a Cambridge Audio Topaz SR10 and I'm thinking of buying some Tannoy Mercury V4's to go with it.

I was wondering if a subwoofer would be necessary with these floorstanders as from what I hear they seem to have fairly decent bass response. I do listen to a fair bit of bass-heavy music, rock/downtempo/electronica/trip-hop etc. It would be used in an apartment with a fairly decent sized living room.

If you think a sub is necessary, or highly recommended, then what are some good budget subs out there that you think would match the rest of my gear well? This is the first semi-decent audio setup I'll have bought, so your help is much appreciated!

The subs from BK electrics are the best value for money, the make superb subs that you won't better at the price. Don't bother with cheapo subs that sound like deep farts. Get the biggest bk you can afford, I use the XXLS400 and it sounds great.

+1. Good subs by their nature, are unlikely to be cheap.

Have a listen to what you have, or will have in the near future and then decide if you need to add a sub. I personally would optimise the stereo setup before getting a sub though.

Subs can be great though.
