Hi,

First post so be gentle. My kids have got to he sleepin at night stage now so I'm looking to upgrade my aging Kenwood receiver. I have a Toshiba Regza37"/Xbox360/Sky and as HTPC connected by DVI/HDMI adapter with an optical running into the Kenwood. I have about £200 to spend on a new receiver and it will be for movies and very little if any music. I mainly watch Tv Shows and movies from my HTPC and need a few suggestions what to go for.My local retailer is doing the Marantz sr4002 for £199 which seems like a bargain after checking a few other sites. Would the Cambridge Audio 340R (£179)/Sony STRDG710 (£149) be a worthy choice? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi fatdog

You could try the Onkyo tx-sr505(5* rated) as its being replaced by the 506(so there should be some bargains outhere), or wait for a review of the new Sony str-dg820 at £230 from play.com, it does all the latest codex for sound including HD, so future proof should you get into blu-ray.

Hope this helps

Alan,

Thanks for the reply. Actually bought and set up a 505 on behalf of a friend recently. Nice piece if kit and RicherSounds are doing it for £199 at the minute. Will trawl around for any info on the Sony. Would you recommend the Marantz at that price. When I see a bargain I get tempted very quickly. Cheapest I see it anywhere else for is £349, so £199 is a tad cheap. Worth a punt or hold off..... choices choices!!!
