Hello all,

Just a query as to wether or not these are worth getting on bluray as i already have them on dvd? I'm not keen on updating every movie in my collection to bluray but i enjoy these movies so much that at £17.95 from Zavi i am very tempted but only if the quality of the blurays is good enough to tempt me further, any thoughts much appreciated thank you.

Oldboy,

I can only comment on the Bourne identity (1st one) & its only just that much better than the DVD version (upscaled to 1080p) as i thought the DVD version of this movie was tops & so was the audio.

The bluray version does benefit from "slighty" better clarity & a deeper colour but where it shines best is the DTS master audio track, although the DVD DTS version was great this has more belt to it so for those reasons its well worth the upgrade, but dont expect a GIANT leap in terms of PQ.

Hope this helps.

Thankyou very much, very helpful! I suspected it would be worth it for the extra bite in the soundtrack but you can never be sure but didn't expect amazing PQ, good to hear there are some improvements though. Still undecided at the moment however.

Still undecided at the moment however.Thing is oldboy the DVD version of this movie was Soooo good as i always thought it was one of the better dvd transfers out there as so was the soundtrack, so i wasnt that surprised that the bluray version wasnt that much better but as ive already stated the DTS soundtrack has a better bite.

When it first came out on bluray i didnt wanna spend £15 to £20 for it, however when asda where selling there blurays for a tenner this was one of them, if id of spent full price for it id have to say id be disapointed, so id recommend if you can get it cheap then its worth it for the extra bite in the soundtrack alone, if not i think i could live with the dvd version tbh.

But to add to this a do own A Denon 2500BT & its upscaling capabilities are 2nd to none, so maybe the Denons just spoiling me?

Review of pic and sound here - I thought it was worth the upgrade over the DVD personally.

Id say its worth the upgrade but mainly for the soundtrack, but it just wasnt the biggest leap in terms of PQ for me compared to the DVD.

The review that Profs posted up is what i would of said, as you can see by that review there not praising up the PQ just saying its above average with sharpness etc just like ive stated that its "slighty" better in clarity & the AQ is also saying what i thought that it does have an added boost to it.

Now, that's what I call a REVIEW - explicitly written to cover every facet. Brilliant!

I cannot compare to the dvd, but I can say that Bourne Identity is without a doubt my favourite Blu Ray. I loved the picture quality, sound and the movie!

as the OP has had a good answer. just for giggles. i will standup and be counted. They bore me too. I realise the fault is no doubt entirely mine. but they seem to be one long chase of running around at high speed. with little dialogue or chartacter development. but then ive never got on with Bond movies or indiana jones either.

each to thier own.

Not even Jones?! I think you're the first person I've met who doesn't get on with the Joneses (apart from the last one naturally).

No dialogue? In the Bourne films? You've not been paying attention... and Bourne's character develops throughout the series as he discovers more about himself.

but then ive never got on with Bond movies or indiana jones either.

I think Bourne is a step above both of those (or was, the latest Bonds have effectively become Bourne-alikes anyway). You could have just said "I don't like action movies", nobody would have argued with that.

i know u like a ruck mate. but it was never meant to be an argument. soome said they were suprised that anyone could find Bourne boring. and i admiited I did. i dont need to

justify it. and u dont need to prove they arent. its just individual taste. obviously i liked the other films more.

well said method man.I like to think of the bourne films as a "thinking mans action trilogy".when i first watched them i did not know what to make of them,But you pick more things up the more you watch them. And one final note dvd will never look as good as blu-ray.Dvd is sd and upscaling only fits your tv panel, you cannot turn sd into hd.

Of course theres character development in Transporter, from the 1st to the 3rd film Statham's martials arts is greatly developed

Oh and by the way Transformers 1&2 are good films in my opinion. Transporter series is also a good martial arts franchise. The Bourne series is ok, the fight scenes are great the rest sometimes does get slow.

Does anyone know if the original Ong Bak is on blu ray??

Actually that's not true, I hate confrontation, the only times I get "involved" here is either when someone says something that clearly isn't true (which doesn't quite apply in this case) or if someone makes a statement that's completely illogical, which is the case here.

I'm not telling anyone they should like the Bourne films, or telling them that they shouldn't like Transformers (how could I? I enjoyed that film myself), but you simply cannot say you dislike Bourne because of the lack of dialogue or character development and then in the next breath say you enjoyed Transformers because to me, Bourne and Transformers occupy almost the same space in cinema, they're both action films (ok Transformers overlaps Sci-Fi but it doesn't really matter), they're both fast paced, with explosions and fights all over the place and to me the only difference between them is that Bourne has i) a coherent plot, ii) decent dialogue and iii) proper characters, none of which really feature in Transformers (although the Chihuahua was very good...), so to criticise Bourne for lacking ii) and iii) just doesn't make any sense at all, especially if you're prepared to forgo both in order to enjoy Transformers.

Like I said, I like both, so I have no fanboy axe to grind one way or the other.
