I used to have a pair of Mission 783 that I loved. Now I want to build a budget system with a pair of bookshelf speaker plus a subwoofer. Is there any chance to get the Mission 783 quality spending no more than 350 euro? I can find excellent reviews over there, but unfortunatelly my only HI-FI reference are those old 783.

Cheers.

Mission speakers tend to sound a bit on the dark side so the best practice is to pair them with bright amps like Rotel, Cambridge Audio or Yamaha. As far as the woofer goes, my advice is to ditch this approach and go for standfloors instead. Perhaps B&W 684? (they have a Mission like type of sound but with much more detailed mids).

Happy buying! *dance4*

Is there any specific reason that you'd prefer a sub? I'd always advise to try and get the bass you're looking for from the right 2/ch setup. It'll sound much more tightly integrated. Typically, floorstanders have better bass extension and depth but if space is the issue then there are bookshelf alternatives that do a very good job. Besides, the money that you would use for the sub could be better spent towards higher quality speakers.

Thanks for your comments.

The reason for having a sub is that I already have it, since I currently have a pair of 'bass-less' old JBL Control 1 pro that I want to replace.

I have the feeling that with my budget it would be easier to get good sound from bookshelf rather than from floorstanders...

This may not be easy.I had a pair if Mission 782's which I loved until one of them was damaged. When searching for a replacement I tried several speakers in the £800 bracket such as the rx6's and they didn't really hold a candle to them.In the end I had to spend 1350 on b&w cm8's to find an improvement. If you like mission though, you'll probably love Spendors. I listened to a few Spendor floor standers And they were lovely, but outside my budget. If you can get a good deal on some Spendor stand mounts I think you'll probably be impressed. Obviously try before you buy, but the sound is similar to the 78 series, but better.
