ive just read one of the lengthy threads in relation to the onkyo 905 dts ma bomb. Not good as i have a 905. Do any readers know of any blurays out there encrypted with a dts ma soundtrack? i think i need to purchase one sooner rather than later to make sure my amps not faulty. Im running blurays through a ps3 at the moment and am assuming this processes the dts ma soundtrack on board and outputs it via lpcm. thankyou in advance.

You should get in contact with Genserve. They will send you out a CDÿwhichÿyou play through a CD player via an optical cable to update the DSP firmware which is where the bomb lays ticking... I have just gone through the process and its very simple!

Hi Yammaman, im thinking of playing a disc 1st and seeing if anything goes boom boom..theres conflicting views on firmware updates i.e if theres nothing wrong, it doesnt need fixing or update regardless of a problem or not

Mine is only about a month old, I would imagine yours will be OK, depends how long they had it in store.

With your 905 on, press the 'display' button on the actual unit and then press the 'Standby' button on the unit, this will show the 2 firmwares installed. It's the second number which will determine whether you will have a DTS-HD problem.

Mine reads 1.09/08414A, 08414A being the important one for your issue. As I said, mine plays DTS-HD MA fine, so if your firmware is the same I think you can assume yours will be OK. If it's different contact Genserve on 01793 886 333, they handle Onkyo's support service in the UK and they'll confirm whether you need to update the firmware.

Hi pete321, thanks for the firmware and genserve contact details. Hooked my denon transport to the onkyo last night and the true hd and uncompressed soundtracks on a couple of my discs sounded ace. I wasnt so keen on i robot, but i think die hard4 has a master audio soundtrack so im going to use that as my test disc. I'll check my firmware tonight and let you know how i get on. thanks again

Just checked my dates, purchased amp on the 21st of july..but like you said, it depends how log it had been in the shop
