Seeing as everyone is on about BD I alway buy my ordinary dvds from the US and Im now considering getting a BD player to use as a seperate entity but would still like to buy my discs from the US for the BD player are there any UK BD models that will allow me to still buy from the US and if so which ones

No, buy a region A player from the US as this will also be region 1 and play your DVD's too. As much as I detest to say it, get a SONY as these seem to be, at the moment, immune to firmware update requirements.
