Hi all,

Have a Marantz SR7007 and an Oppo 103 blu ray player connected via HDMI cables. Appreciate this may be very subjective but out of interest which do you prefer to do the audio decoding?

Your AVR or your blu-ray player?

Cheers,

Jonathan

p.s. I use split AV on Oppo - HDMI 1 to TV and HDMI 2 to AVR - also am not bothered about whether the AVR shows which signal is being output - I know this can be an issue for some with LPCM.

It makes no difference to the sound quality.

The most important thing is to always check you have the lossless track selected on the player - some discs dont select the lossless track by default.

I watched Source Code last night, that defaulted to the stereo soundtrack, even after I selected DTS-HD MA from the menu! I had to change it again using the audio button once the film had started.

Thanks for the replies so far, guys.

I read somewhere too it makes no difference - like unzipping a word document - but thought I'd check to see what people's thoughts were on this subject. All comments are appreciated.

Quickest way is to just try both yourself and see if a) you can hear any difference and b) if you can, which you prefer.

Exactly what I'll be doing, LHC. Just intriqued to see what people's thoughts were on the subject.

As far as I can tell most people seem to prefer having the shiny blue light on their amplifier lighting up. Other than that...
