OK...whats going on here. Over the last few months there seems to me that there has been a steady increase in the amount of what I see as 'I am right so you must be wrong' attitude on these forum pages. Fair enough..lets have a reasoned argument / discussion and some fun but lets not extend that to down right insults and slagging off other members. There also seems to be some 'baiting' going on...Lets wind Fred up and see how long it takes for him to blow. C'mon guys, it's getting to the stage where even people with a common interest can't get together. What do the WHF staff think...after all they are the mods here?

This thread seems designed to be ...

(a) Self fulfilling

(b) deleted very soon

Point (a).....It is not meant to be. I thought it a reaonable observation.

Point (b)....Thats up to the mods. But I dont see why

Chebby....that was NOT my intention. I only ever intended to promote discussion.

That's the very nature of the forum format, I'm afraid. Doesn't matter where it is, you will encounter this 'free and frank exchange of views', particularly when people with strongly held views meet. You have to take the rough with the smooth. Let's face it, sometimes it is very entertaining.

On the flip side, it can also be frustrating and time consuming trying to seek an answer to a valid query - may even put some folk off bothering. It also means contributors are too busy debating such an issue to bother responding to other posts!

Best not spend too much time on this thread either...

It is a lovely morning, some Ravel I think. Anyone else find Boulez a little clinical conducting Ravel?

Andrew Everard:...And here we go again. By the way, lovely morning, isn't it...?

It is, isn't it? Have already been told my shirt evokes the Summer of Love.

But back to the post...no, it's not as grumpy as it used to be. Next...

Yeah any mention of Brazil does tend to make me a little nauseous, certainly:

And Nokz isn't the only one with a foxy encounter to report - we had a vixen lazing in the sun by our back fence this morning!

Grrrr foxes. Beautiful creatures but not when they are shredding bin liners apart on the night before collection! Costs me a small fortune in Waitrose heavy duty 'garden sack' grade liners (and Jeyes fluid) to deter them.

They used to be quite furtive but I have seen one casually trotting down our street at 11:30 in the morning.

If it were not for the ban our city would be ripe pickings for a local hunt. When we moved in 24 years ago ants were the only 'pest' we had to deal with. What next? Grizzlies?

Since the local council went into full recycling mode, we've had a plastic food bin as part of our refuse collection scheme. Already one corner is completely gone as the foxes have devoured it in order to get to the "goodies" inside.ÿ

My morning just got better. Went to Grahams Hifi in London to get some Linn bearings oil, only charged me a quid and picked up Herbie Hancock's Headhunters and Lee Morgan's Sidewinder for a tenner each. THEN went to the Oxfam on Kingsland Road, a good Oxfam for used vinyl and got a Blue Note compilation album, Cesar Frank's Psyche, Mahler's 5th (Barbirolli) AND the famous Barbirolli recordng of Elgar's Cello concerto and Janet Baker singing Sea Pictures all for a fiver!

Dame Janet Baker the famous contralto, featured in my previous post RE Barbirolli recording, worked with David Owen Norris, a pianist and famous organ scholar at Keble college Oxford, amongst Norris' peers for a time was renowned organ scholar Douglas Fox (1893-1978).

Andrew, Gramophone writer, I thought you of all people would have picked up on the link.
