Love my RS1's lovely musical speakers but I am moving shortly and my new lounge is a lot bigger 4x5m so am looking for new floorstanders to match my Brio R amp.

The RS1 have been a little bass shy when playing stuff like Massive Attack & Orbital but this accounts for about 20% of my listening the rest being stuff like Pink FLoyd, Neil Young, Kate Bush and general rock/pop/easly listening!

Looking at a budget of around £600-800.

My local dealers has a demo pair of RS3 in cherry for £600 so these are first on my shortlist as Im sure they could handle a lot more bass than the RS!.

What else come recommened for demo?

Thanks guys

As the other post Steve I'd look at speaker mentioned in there

The RS3s and RS5s work VERY well with the Brio R but so do the Neat Motive 2s and 3s. Know you've already had the Motive 3s but they could be what you're looking for.

I found the R100s worked better with the Brio R over the LS50s but still worth a good listen in your own living room 🙂

I'm not sure about the prices in the UK, but the new KEF R's do very well with the Brio R. Heard the R500, and it sounded really great!

Thought the Motive 3 sounded fantastic on demo but sadly when I got them home they just didn't work - too much bass!

i will be Demoing at home this time to make sure they work acoustically in my new lounge so I will add the the motive 2se & 3 to my list!

Steve, after a second of head scratching, why not at least dem these http://www.whathifi.com/review/neat-motive-2. I think there's a MKII coming out soon, so it'll be worth making the enquiry. They are very small, though.

Motive 2 or SE2?

confusing!

Loved the Motive 3, they just didnt work in my lounge, but seeing as I will have a new loune soon then I will try them again as they sounded fantastic with the Brio on demo at the dealers!

Nice. You have good taste in music.

If the RS1s are shy in the bass and Motives 3s were a little bass heavy in a smaller room, maybe the Motive 3s (or even 2s) would work better in your new room.

I don't have much to offer as prices for the same products are so different between NA and UK (as one might expect for products that are locally manufactured), but you could try wiring in a subwoofer with your RS1s. I wire in a sub on occasion and it works for me. Anyway, curious to see how you find the RS3s.

A lightly used set of RS5s may not be that far off your budget either. When I bought the R and DAC, I had a conversation with my dealer about the Rega speakers. For the relatively small difference in price, he thought the 5s were a worthwhile upgrade to the 3s and that the R could properly drive them.

Given the 2 retailed around £1000, they maybe heavily discounted now the SEs are available.

*Edit* Just noticed these: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Focal-Chorus-716V-Speakers-Ex-Display-/221110221721?pt=UK_AudioVideoElectronics_HomeAudioHiFi_HiFiSpeakers&hash=item337b323b99 They could be a staggering match.

I have a Rega BrioR . and originally had Monitor Audio RX1s when I upgraded to floorstanders I found the MA RX6 s were great.

Fully agree that the Rega RS5s would be a great match... Heard them side by side with the RS3s and the Brio R fed by an MF M1Clic and the RS5s are certainly worth it; more so if they pop up 2nd hand!

For me the MA RX6s are fantastic speaker but IMO the Brio R just won't get the best out of them; they come to lift so much more when fed by a much beefier amp...

id still hunt high & low for some Neat Motive 2s... Amazing speakers and for their size they have bass weight and punch that is astonishing!

Sorry but dont agree with the comment that the Brio R isnt powerful enough for the MA RX6 no problem in my set up at all.
The RX6s have a great bass response and the Brio drives them well.

I may try the RX series, but in all honesty wasnt that impressed with the BX2s but I know these are a different animal!

So Far I have........

Rega RS3

Neat Motive SE2

MA RX8

Have beem driving the RX6 for more than a year with a 50W solid state amp and a 35W tube amp with excellent results. I do not think they need much more than that to be able to shine.

Great speakers for the price in my opinion!

Hi Steve,

The Motive 2 is worth including as well. The SE is supposed to have better tweeter and be more refined but the motive 2 might sound more exciting or just prefer this to SE version. I guess it is more like the motive 3.

All the best
