I have just plasterboarded an extension where I have run in an AV and 5.1 system ready to populate with new toys. I have made a big mistake by not having the electrician place a socket near where the Subwoofer will be located and therefore that leaves me with a problem that I will have to run a power lead visible in the room. Can anyone recommendation a 5.1 speaker setup that will not be Subwoofer power dependent.

My design (if I have it right) is to connect the speakers into an Onkyo TXNR509, with that providing connection to SKY HD Box, Samsung Blu-Ray, a Hot-Bird Satellite receiver, Wii (if that can go through it) and a Sonos, to feed an LED TV or provide sound through speakers.

I was looking at a Sony set of speakers but the Subwoofer needs power and the satellite speakers need to connect to the Subwoofer as it contains an amp.

Any recommendations which will help me. I am about 10 days from a purchase requirement for this setup and have a £400 budget for the Speaker package.

I feel your pain, but I think you will have to bite the bullet and get the electrician back in .

A quick internet search shows there's actually quite a few passive subs avalable, though they mainly come from two camps: professional audio or all-in-one systems.

So either one of those, or follow hammill's advice. Or... place the active sub somewhere else or maybe get a 5.0 system with the two fronts big enough for some bass?

Sorry, I'm a bit confused. If you are running an all in one subwoofer that powers the satellites, why do you need the Onkyo?
