Basic scenario I have the Yamaha DSP-AX763 and will be getting some nice B&W 685s to go with it. Obviously the speakers are very well regarded so my question is should I bother bi-amping or bi-wiring or not worrying? I'll probably try all 3 so that I can see (or hear?) for myself but I'm curious to see if there's much of a concensus out there.

Sorry to sort of Hijack this thread but could someone explain in laymans terms the meaning of Bi-wiring and Bi-amping especially.

Think I understand the Bi-wiring but does Bi-amping mean you need two amps???? As I type this I just know this makes me sound like a complete imbecile but hey, who knows, someone else may be thinking the same.....

many av amps allow you to bi-amp

biwiring probably isnt worth the effort as there are as youll be lucky to spot the difference

biamping on the other hand may change the sound but from an av amp not necessarily for the better

i tried it and didnt like the result so went back

if you have the cable try it

one off, thanks for the quick reply but you seem to have over estimated my knowledge! I am still none the wiser as to what either of these terms actually mean? What do you have to physically do?

Searched the forum and found an excellent explanation as to the actual wiring process along with diagrams!!! (thanks Mr. Everard circa 2007!) Should have done this before posting, my apologies.

Could still do with an explanation as to the benefits.

I have just bi-amped my front speakers last week, and I could hear the different. Sounds is more crisp and there is more air/ breathing space in the presentation. So go for it if you can

Definite improvement for me bi-amping Jamo C809's fed from my Onkyo NR905 AVR. Not everyones idea of a typical Hi-Fi set up I know but awesome for movies and to my old ears not too shabby in stereo Pure Audio mode. Everything just that little more taught and controlled after bi-amping.

Agree that bi-wiring probably not worth the cost of additional pair of speaker cables though, at least not unless you have a very high end system and perhaps not even then.

sorry for not replying earlier but work called

benefits really depend on your speakers and amp theres no hard and fast rule

in my case biamping completely ruined the balance of the sound though the bass was marginally better

In the old days when I had a 3020i and Tannoy Mercury speakers I had them bi-wired and the sound was improved, better stereo seperation and tighter bass. Back in the day it was deemed a fairly cheap upgrade.

Thanks for the input everyone. Looks like bi-amping is a popular choice. I was expecting more 'don't bothers' to be honest because whilst the Yammy is a solid amp (I like it anyway) it's certainly not top of the range so it's interesting that poeple think it's still worth at least trying it out.
