More the bit about it being a term of disgust, also relating to "foolishness" e.g. high end cable manufacturers peddle a load of foo... or not, as the case may be.

I think that my confusion arose because it was initially used as if it were a term in common use, rather than one requiring two pages of etymological discussion to clarify what the poster was trying to say.

I can't agree with that unless my ears have been lying. I do believe in the law of diminishing returns though and think you should buy something appropriate for your system. If you're spending £100k then it would be fooish to not spend good money on cables and mains conditioning.

It's good this slang business, that last post took me 1/2 a millisecond less to type. Bring it o'
