Please help. I have the follwing setup fo my home cinema set but don't know anything about which cablews to use to finish it off. Should I purely look at ratings or will a couple of freebies do?: Speakers and sub: B&W MT30 (5.1), Amp: Pioneer SCLX82, TV

IHMO why compromise? The kit you already have isn't mickey mouse stuff so why go for the freebies and ruin the whole think?

I am certain the other guys with far better technical knowledge that I can advice you as to what interconnects and HDMIs to use.

I'd agree, don't go for freebies. You have good kit there that should be treated well. Having said that, I can heartily recommend the ThatCables sub £5 HDMI cables. They get 5 stars from WHF. I've got one and it's superb. Use that for Amp to TV and Source to Amp

The Sub and Interconnect cables need choosing more carefully as you've got analogue signals to think of. Maybe Van de Hul The Wave for Source to Amp depends on your source - what is your source? CD/DVD/Blu Ray make/model?

Sub cable: Could go up to a QED-Qunex SR, but might be overkill, a Chord Crimson sub could well suffice.

If you haven't already got them, you also need to consider speaker cables. Chord Carnival Silverscreen or maybe QED Silver Anniversary should do, for satellite speakers. You could look at something chunkier, but IMHO I'm not sure it's worth it for mini speakers.

Quick update on my own advice

Apparently, there are reports on this site that of Chord Crimson sub cables making subs hum - potentially due to some form of fault with the cable.

So you might want to keep this in mind when selecting your sub cable. Again, this may be a relatively isolated problem, but thought I should mention it.

I use a Chord Crimson sub lead and have no problems. Agree with the choice of speaker cable.
