What impresses me is how this (and other) threads are left to meet their own demise without mod action, no sarcasm. The voice of reason (usually) pervails. Nice.

Not so long ago this would have been impossible and there are other forums where folks are all to quick to press lock or erase buttons.

I agree, but then everyone screams ' censorship' and we get "Why was the xyz thread locked?" threads and then "Why was the... "Why was the xyz thread locked?" thread locked?" threads etc. ad infinitum.

The 'censorship' is then taken personally by all sides and eveyone accuses the mods of being '[insert product] bashers'.

Not sure where the 'but' comes in but what I tried to say is I personally prefer minimum censorship unless there's some obvious reason to lock down.

We'll probably get erased in a minute for discussing this though ...

Hang on, I'm confused. Am I a goody or a baddy?

You can be whatever you want to be . Last time I seem to remember you were a red indian , so it is only fair that you are a cowboy this time .

Yippee ki -yay ,Mother Russia !

BTW Jon. Good luck with your speakers, I hope that they're a success. The acoustic induction cabinet loading technology that you use sounds very interesing indeed.

@ WHF - Please try and get hold of a pair of Alacrity Audio speakers for testing. I'd love to know what you guys think of them.

According to his blog on the Alacrity Audio website they are going to be at the Scalford Show (Melton Mowbray), March 3rd.

Talk about coming back down to earth with a bump 🙂

After reading some of your posts I can honestly say most of you sound like Idiots and probably listen to Jefferson Airplane or Mungo Jerry or some such EDITED. Maybe if you some of you pull your head out from your EDITED you could hear your speakers better! FYI: £300 tops, that all you need.

Thank you and good bye.

I can see why you might think that :shifty:

Welcome to the forum BasilSeven and thank you for starting such an entertaining and slightly surreal thread. You must think that we're a bunch of nutters after reading through that lot. 🙂

You can buy very good sound quality for under £300 nowadays. My choice at this price would probably be a Behringer UCA202 DAC/volume controller used together with some Yamaha HS50M speakers which have the amplifiers already built into them.

Total cost £266.

Well, Basil old fellow! I take it all back. I see your point, but where did you go? £300 and you are indeed good to go. Hope you find something you like. 🙂

As for speakers, have a think about some Roland DS7's, which you can try for 14 days at home from Red Dog Music in Edinburgh (great shop, been in a few times and the guys are good. The product itself is discontinued, but several outlets have them discounted and they come with an onboard DAC too. You should find a pair for under your £300 budget.
