Hi,

What's the best Blu-ray player at no more than 5.5-6cm high? Contenders seem to be Sony BDP-S360, Samsung BDP-3600, Pioneer ?, Oppo ?, Philips ?. Budget up to £400 but rack space is tight. Appreciate any pointers. Thanks!

Thank you. May I ask what makes you say that - ie in your opinion in what makes this better than the alternatives?

I'd go with the BDP-S360. I went for the S760, only because I needed the analogue outs for my amp. The S360 is a great BDP and you can get it for as little as £104.99 (limited availability at RS) and that leaves a lot of money for other kit, BDs to spin, add a thatcable HDMI lead for £5 and its got to be the best £110 you'll spend...

DMP-BD80 - Problem free, pristine picture quality, high clarity sound, multichannel analogue outputs.

The new Oppo BDP-80 looks a good option, you can get it region and zone free for £350, only 53mm high.

the review on the bd80 isn't the best....so is it really good and we should not read the review? say comparing it to the S360 sound and pic wise is it on the same level?

Not so bothered about the review to be honest - more interested in hearing some real life testimonials. Hard to read much out of the review (for example it commends "punch to effects" but then goes on to declare it lacks "scale and dynamics" against the competition - no idea what you're supposed to make out of that).

The OPPO BDP-80 looks interesting too but difficult to get hold of in the UK. I can only find one online retailer and their players have aftermarket hardware added which is not supported by OPPO? Sounds a little fishy...
