Best record player to pair with new amp & speakers?

Hi All,

I'm new to the forum so forgive me if my question is similar to another person's somewhere on the site.

I've recently bought a pair of B&W 606 S2 Anniversary and decided to not go for the obvious choice - Rega brio but to purchase the Rotel A11 Tribute instead. The main reason behind this was the fact that the Rio Brio did not come with a phono stage or the ability to adjust Bass/treble which is really important for me.

Very happy so far but am now on the hunt for a record player that will match well; my go to guy at Audio T suggests the Rega Planar 3 Elys 2? Seems pretty expensive compared with the price I paid for the amp and speakers. I wondered if there's a good alternative a little cheaper or around the same price?

I listen mainly listen to alt/psychedelic rock and dream pop and a strong midrange is a must for my ears, hopefully this gives a clear picture of what I'm looking for.

Any help massively appreciated.

If I've read this correctly, you say the Brio doesn't come with a phono stage. Right? All affordable Regas have a built-in or integrated MM phono stage, as does Rotel.

Any Rega or Pro-ject tables within your budget will be fine. Then over time upgrade the cartridge. Both brands respond well to a much better cartridge.

yes, he is mistaken about the Brio. It does have a phono stage but bit doesn't have the time controls he apparently needs.

Thanks both.

Seems I am mistaken on the phono stage front. Nonetheless I wanted the bass and treble controls due to difficulties with correct positioning in my current flat.

I have a hunt for a good deal on one of these two brands!

Given that Rega were originally turntable specialists, it makes sense their amps have integrated phono stages.

As for tone controls Rotel, Arcam and Marantz provided these... I think only Marantz and - possibly - Rotel does. Arcam stopped tone controls when they discontinued the DIVA range.
