best quality tv picture for 1500 pounds

Hi Everyone , just a quick question , you have 1500 pounds to spend on a new tv, size 40 min 50 max , will use it with sky hd and freesat tuner if it has one or freeview and sony 570 bluray player, most important feature is picture quality, not bothered about any thing else ie 3d or internet just best picture ,WHAT WOULD YOU ALL BUY,thanks ian

best advice anyone can give you is to check out the reviews on some sets on this site, particularly the 5 star ones and see what they say about the various models, get yourself down to a few retailers and audition the sets you like, one problem here is that most will be on sale if not sold already to make way for all the new ranges but there is a bargain to be had should you find one, pay particular attention if you go the LCD route over PLASMA as you my be confronted with backlight issues to varying degrees and most are hard to see unless your in a darkened room (most showrooms are well lit), as for internet and 3D well most if not all sets now will have one or the other (or both!) and that is the direction the manufacturers are taking now but that does not mean you have to use them but im sure you will give it a go !,

I was in the same situation after selling my SONY 3D TV. I never used the 3D, so wanted the best possible picture for Blu Ray, SKY HD and gaming. I purchased a second hand Pioneer Kuro 5090 in excellent condition for £1400 and have to say I am blown away with the quality it delivers with high definition pictures. There are also many settings for you to tweek to your satisfaction!!

Obviously spending nearly £1500 on a second hand TV that is over 2 years old isn't going to be for everybodys taste, but after demoing many sets over the last few months, I am yet to see it beaten for picture quality alone.

NUFCMARSON: Just out of interest, was that the Pioneer being sold privately from someone in New Malden? (saw an ad for that exact set at the same price you paid recently and was tempted myself!). You can get a 42" Panasonic VT30 for around the same price which may have black levels approaching that of the Kuro and will have better connectivity options. I also like the new Samsung UE-D8000 which is also in this price range and probably wins the aesthetic award!

@Buzz_lightclick. No, I purchased mine from a guy in Manchester. It was in excellent condition, well looked after and much better performance wise than anything on the market right now. It has been the first plasma screen I have ever owned, but the KURO in my opinion still rules the high definition market. Watching a Blu Ray on my Pioneer LX71 is a sight to behold.

The Philips 9705 provides a wonderful picture and the whole thing oozes quality, but you have to fiddle with the settings for pretty well every different thing you watch. Drove me insane after a week or so.

I'v just bought a Panasonic L32DT30 and I'm very pleased with the picture quality. It looks good on SD, for DVDs etc and no fiddling. Obvious corner cutting - e.g. the stand doesn't move at all, but picture-wise, it's pretty good.
