best in wall 7.1

trying to work out the best 7.1 in wall solution for a room running 6.2 x 3.3m. Budget keeps changing but potentially i can squeeze 5 k plus so I should be able to get something decent - hopefully!

I started looking at monitor audio apex and then shadow on wall. But now I'm thinking I may be able to get some reference quality speakers for an inwall solution for the sort of money I am considering. For a sub the suggestions were the JL F112 and I was looking at MK in walls also.

if we can find a slim on wall speaker for the same sort of price range then this would also suffice.

As always all ideas are gratefully received :?

There are lots of options with this and I would recommend you find a good specialist to discuss your plans with. The F112 is a cracking sub so you are fine there but if your £5k is including the sub you may wish to look at other options that free up a bit more budget for the front three. Are you still going for a projector?

The Ken Kreisel DXD12012 subwoofer uses dual 12" drivers for just under £2,000, which will shift twice as much air as most other subs at this price point. This will free up an extra £900 towards speakers, and will allow you to spend £1k on each of the front three. In my opinion, the DXD12012 is by far the best sub at it's price point, and probably some way above it too.

Lol. I am being steered towards the MK package s150 up front and tripol 150 with Mk 4t at far rear along with the JL sub. Which as you point out Nick is over the budget but that's always the case!! Is the JL better than the Ken Kreisler?

i am just trying to work out if the 12 x 10 x 12 inch 150s will be too much of an eye saw - they aren't the best looking speakers in the world from the pictures of the web. Still going for the projector. Again being steered towards the Sony hx50 . Without being able to travel the length and breadth of the country comparing kits it's difficult to know if I am missing anything..... :?

I am going to eliminate the grief for you..... M&K is the one to go for . By far the best sub sat system for me and used in studios for mastering cinema audio . I have heard the M&K in action and the very ones you mention. With a budget like 5K they are the preferred choice and king of the Sub Sat combo for me. Give them a demo you will be surprised how great they sound for being in wall speakers!

I personally am a fan of floor stands like my CM8's, but that brand is probably the only one that will break me out my bias and steer me towards Sub Sat. In the future when I build my Cinema room....pause for minor day dream, I will be installing M&K.

I would love to be in your shoes right now!

The Sony is a good choice and you wont go wrong with that. MK vs JL - you would have to hear that for yourself and I would urge an audtion prior to purchase. We sold MK years ago so my recent experience is from the older models that we have traded in.

Thanks Nick. I am edging ever closer but still open to ideas. The problem is I just don't believe there are many other good options out there for in wall or on wall speakers.

I agree with Nick, a demo is in order. Besides you want to be sure of your purchase, test them all out if you must. That's the fun of buying a new AV system. It will be worth the travel!

you bet it is John and that is based on sitting and listening to both for around 6 weeks, only my opinion of course and that of several others

also why not revert back to what you asked me initially which is going down the inwall speaker route, I still maintain the MK IW150 are the best inwall speaker available at its price point, the only other inwall speaker that i`ve heard to beat them cost around £4k each. From a visual point of view you can make them disappear, so extremely wife friendly, audibly if you can bring me something to compare then please do and i`ll throw my demo`s room open for a good long listen with everyone welcome

the system we have entensively talked about I truly feel cannot be beaten at the given price, either audibly or image wise

when you are spending this amount of money as well, as Nick and others have already said, demoing is essential
