Best BluRay (3D too) to show off your systems abilities

Hi all,

Having finally managed to make a system that I am happy with and I wanted to know what Blu-Ray movies you all think best test and show off the abilities of an AV system. I'm still experimenting with the settings and sometimes wonder if I'm getting the best out of my system. I always imagined with a hefty subwoofer I would hear more bass.

So far I only have one 3D movie, Avatar to test/experience the 3D capabilities of my new TV and BD player, as well as regular 2D movies The Dark Knight, Inception, Bladerunner (5 disc set), Batman Begins, Casino Royale... and George Michael Live in London.

Do you all have any other reference level movies that you would recommend.

BigBoss, any suggestions?

Regards,

TnA

Tron Legacy 3D

Very good surround sound - especially the cycle chase sequence.

I expected a few more replies!

I'm sure my meagre selection can't be all the reference level Blu-Ray movies/concerts out there.

BTW, Xmas did add Harry Potter 8 disc set to my collection. Have yet to check it out.

No experience of 3d at home.

Tron Legacy has stunning PQ & SQ, I'd say rent it though . It's not a good film.

How To Train Your Dragon.

Pirates of the Caribbean 4 was first film when I got my new amp, and I thought soundtrack was one of best.

Sorry, seems like I missed this thread. I can only recommend 2D movies.

I am Legend: especially the first scene where Will Smith chases deer in his car; gives your sound system & subwoofer a good workout

The Dark Knight: superb picture with lot of dark scenes & brilliant sound

Lord of the Rings Extended Trilogy: all 3 parts have reference picture & sound. My absolute favourite now.

Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows Parts 1 & 2: great picture & sound.

Ratatouille for its picture

I must have missed this too, but despicable me is awesome, tangled is good too, Tron is the best 3D movie IMO & the lion king is excellent too.

Lord of the Rings Extended Trilogy is on my list of possible birthday presents to myself! :) So look forward to checking that out.

Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows Parts 1 & 2 - are on my to watch list for the near future as I have the discs from Santa!

I did get Cars 2 3D and Kung Fu Panda 2 for the kids, Cars 2 looked good in 2D, but still haven't had a chance to see the 3D version.

I wanted to get Tron 3D too, but have been put off by the prices. The 2D version bundled with the original Tron looks like a bargain on Amazon.

Thanks for the ideas. I hope this posting helps out anyone else wanting to see what their system should and could do.

I second Kung Fu Panda.

Knight and Day is also good for surround.

Das Boot and U51 for a subwoofer workout.

Saving Private Ryan - good all round.

I could add to those mentioned above :

I,Robot - Great Picture and Sound

Terminator Salvation - Great for your Subwoofer

But in terms of very pure and subtle surround experience one of my all-time favorites :

House of Flying Daggers DVD....Blu-Ray is probably even better, but I don`t own one....

Hi TnA,

I have to recommend Face/Off on bluray. Bought this quite cheaply the other day and as its quite old I wasn't expecting much. It's "only" uncompressed PCM but WOW! what a soundtrack! Even on my average listening volume the action scenes rock the lounge.

It even has a special feature on the disc where you can jump straight to the best bits that show off the awesome soundtrack.

So this is a must buy to show off your Home Cinema to the max! :)

All the best

Shaolin Soccer for sound, and probably Kung Fu Hustle too.

PQ isn't so good though.

Must say Face Off was one of my fav movies in the past. Think I even had it on VHS! Will have to track it down.

I do have John Woo's The Killer and Hard Boiled for full on Chow Yun-Fat Hong Kong action movie nights!
