best blu-ray WITHOUT 4k upscale

I'm looking to upgrade from an original PS3 (the fat one) to a dedicated blu-ray player. I'm not interested in 4k upscaling as I'll let the TV do it when I eventually get to changing that too; probably in the new year.

Budget isn't really an issue and the rest of my system is as follows:

Panasonic TH42PX80B Plasma screen, Sony STR-DN1040, 5 B&W M1 speakers, BK XXLS400-DF sub with antimode.

Whats your budget? You don't have to use 4K upscaling feature in your blu ray player and can let the TV do it. Just change the settings.

Thanks Bigboss and good point about the settings. I wouldn't want to go above £250 unless it would make a hugely significant difference.

No it won't make a significant difference. Look at Panasonic BDT-460.

How does it compare to the Sony BDP-S6200?

Even Sony is very good, with better "smart" features. Panasonic upscales DVDs a bit better. I'm not a big of Sony's design though.

I agree, I'm not a fan of the diamond design on the top. The BDP-S7200 looks better but I've not seen a review yet.
